The Waterford native has been appointed as the new Southern News Correspondent.

Zara joined the broadcaster in 2018 and was appointed News Correspondent in 2021.

And her coverage of national and international events has led to Zara becoming one of Ireland’s most respected and well-known journalists.

Together with colleagues Gavan Reilly and Richard Chambers, she also presents The Group Chat podcast, Virgin Media popular current affairs podcast, and will continue in that role.

The new position is very special to Zara as she is originally from Waterford and will return to Munster at the end of October.

She will cover the south of the country for Virgin Media News, bringing VMTV’s audience to local and national stories that impact people across the region.

Zara said: “I’m thrilled to return to Munster, my home region, having been born in Cork and raised in Waterford.

“I’ll continue my work with Virgin Media News, focusing on stories that impact people’s lives.

“As a journalist, my goal has always been to amplify voices and hold those in power accountable.

“With a General Election approaching, it’s crucial to understand voters’ expectations for the next Government.”

Virgin Media Television’s Head of News, Ruairi Carroll added: “Zara is a fantastic journalist; her ability to cover national events, breaking news and personal stories makes her the ideal fit for this role.

“She knows the region and the issues that matter to our audience and will bring a depth of insight and a fresh perspective that will undoubtedly enhance our news coverage.”

It’s been a busy year for Zara as she got married to her husband at a star-studded wedding in west Cork in the summer.

Private life

She had announced the exciting engagement last September after a year of dating her partner.

Zara’s mystery boyfriend popped the question on a romantic getaway to Screebe House in Galway.

The journalist keeps her love life relatively private as she keeps her partner’s identity under wraps.

The happy couple tied the knot in a beautiful church in Courtmacsherry, Cork last Friday on July 5, 2024.
