This time, the series dives into the 1989 murders of José (Javier Bardem) and Kitty Menendez (Chloë Sevigny), committed by their sons, Lyle (Nicholas Alexander Chavez) and Erik Menendez (Cooper Koch).
The series opens with an unexpected mix of Kenny G and Milli Vanilli, teasing a smooth ride before chaos ensues. Lyle and Erik are fed up with their parents—José, a domineering father who demands perfection, and Kitty, a passive mother who supports her husband’s every word. The boys, inspired by The Billionaire Boys Club, plan to murder their parents and get away with it. On a quiet evening, the brothers storm their Beverly Hills mansion armed with shotguns, killing their parents in a brutal attack. Initially, the police suspected the mob due to the violence of the crime.
However, the case took a turn when Erik confessed to the killings during therapy, and the audiotapes of this confession, leaked by Judalon Smyth (Leslie Grossman), the mistress of Erik’s psychologist, led to the brothers’ arrest in 1990.
But what makes this story even more gripping is the legal battle that followed, questioning whether the brothers were cold-blooded killers who were after their parents’ wealth or victims of years of abuse.
The series explores the web of lies and cover-ups that unfolded during their trial, which became a media frenzy.
