St. Louisan Napheesa Collier sets new records at the Lynx advance

St. Louisan Napheesa Collier had a tough act to follow as her Minnesota Lynx entered Game 2 of the WNBA playoffs against the Phoenix Mercury.

Her own.

After dropping a career-high 38 points in the Lynx opening game victory, Collier outdid herself with a record-setting performance on Wednesday night.

The former Incarnate Word Academy star topped her career-high with 42 points in leading the Lynx to a 101-88 victory to complete a 2-0 sweep over Phoenix to advance to the WNBA semifinals.

Collier’s 42 points was not only a career high, but it also tied a WNBA single-game playoff record. She joins current New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart and former Atlanta Dream star Angel McCoughtry in this special club.

In addition to her 42 points, Collier also had five rebounds, four assists and two blocked shots while shooting 70 percent from the field and making 12 of her 14 free throw attempts.

The numbers that Collier put up in the series against Phoenix were simply staggering. The 80 points that Collier scored in the series was the most ever in the WNBA for a two-game playoff stretch. In the two games, Collier averaged 40 points, 5.5 rebounds, four assists and 1.5 blocks while shooting 64 percent from the field, 62 percent from 3-point range and 89 percent from the free throw line.

Next up for the No. 2 seed Lynx in the playoffs are a matchup against the No. 3 seed Connecticut Sun in a best of five series. Game 1 will be held on Sunday in Minnesota at 7:30 p.m. (St. Louis time). The game will be televised on ESPN.
