I live in my ’80s Volkswagen campervan and spent a year turning it into a tiny home – it even has its own ‘garden’

A YOUTUBER has shared how she transformed her 80s camper van into a cosy tiny home, featuring a small garden.

Molly Eichenberger has spent the last year and a half converting her minivan into a homely “art piece”.

In her latest video, she revealed how she had to change various components in the van from the flooring to the dashboard.

The YouTuber said: “I’ve spent the past year and a half turning this van into an art piece.

“Everything from the flooring, the seat covers, the dashboard and custom steering wheel cover.”

To transform her Volkswagen van into a home, Molly removed the original materials and replaced them using multi-coloured fabrics which feature heavily in the design.

She also fitted a psychedelic carpet on the floor and installed a colourful custom steering wheel cover, adding to the design.

In the video, Molly showed off her fairy moss garden which sits on top of her dashboard.

She decorated the van with various-sized crystals and added a string of leaves that dangle from the rear-view mirror.

The YouTuber sleeps on a mattress at the back of the campervan.

Molly installed wooden cupboards at the rear of the van, providing storage for all her clothes and essentials.

She also added a countertop, perfect for holding loose items and doubling as a mini-table.

The YouTuber installed a small cooker next to the table and a fridge for storing her food and drinks.

In the video, Molly bought various coloured fabrics which she cut and then stitched together to make new curtains.

This gave her more privacy and also improved the interior design of the campervan.

It comes after a camping expert hailed an unassuming small car as a great camping vehicle – no matter rain or shine.

YouTube star ‘Kent Survival’ took to social media to sing the praises of his Hyundai i10 for camping – a notoriously little car.

‘SIRI’

The online creator Andrew Davidson has named his vehicle ‘Siri’, and sadly says it’s time to say goodbye to the car – so thought it would be best to test its camping capabilities beforehand.

After putting an awning around the car’s boot and setting up the tent, the YouTuber tested the makeshift campervan.

He uses a car tent for hatchbacks but says even the smallest size is too big for the Hyundai.

The brand used is ‘Hasika’ and is currently on sale on Amazon for £69.99.

The YouTube video shows Andrew putting the corners of the tent to the corners of the tailgate, while also informing viewers about hooks that attach to the inside of the car.

There are also various hooks that attach underneath the car to the bumper too.

He then uses two large sticks to hold up the awning before setting up a table underneath – shielding him and the cooking equipment from the rain.

Andrew sets up a table cook his meals on and starts a fire for light and warmth.

Despite being nearly 6ft, he said: “It’s cosy. I can sit up without banging my head. Plenty of space.”

Due to the rain, Andrew said he spent most of his time in the camper bed instead of outdoors – which he said was “very comfortable.”

He said: “It reminded me a bit of being in my roof tent really, but yeah, very very spacious and happy with that.

“I was just looking at the tent and it’s actually done quite well other than it (the rain) was seeping through a bit.

“But I’ve seen others do that. I mean it didn’t come through the sides or anything.”

Andrew enjoyed his Hyundai camping experience so much that he felt sad about having to say goodbye to the car.
