GREENVILLE COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – A homicide investigation is underway Monday morning after a body was found in Greenville County.
The Greenville County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call after 11 p.m. regarding a person possibly on fire near North 6th Street and Woodside Avenue.
Upon arrival, deputies located a man that had apparently been burned. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was identified as 29-year-old Angel Lazaro-Castillo, according to the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
The coroner said Lazaro-Castillo died from blunt force trauma to the head and his death was ruled homicide.
“We need to ensure manner and cause of death of course, that’s what we’re here for,” said Jonathan Hamilton, a Greenville County Senior Deputy Coroner.
“Any deceased individual in this situation, we are using caution and making sure that we cover everything to ensure that if this is a suspicious death, that we are going to investigate it thoroughly,” Hamilton said. “So, at this time, yes, I would say it’s suspicious due to the circumstances.”
The death is an ongoing investigation by the GCSO and the Greenville County Coroner’s Office.
