A DEVASTATED mum is pleading for help to make a mercy dash to a remote island after her teenage son died suddenly.
Makenzie Mcknight, 16, was found dead in Gulberwick, on the Shetland Isles, last Saturday night.
His mum Laura Mcknight has launched a desperate gofundme to get from her home in Glasgow to ‘say goodbye’ to her boy by tonight.
She is hoping to get the Northlink ferry from Aberdeen with her other kids and begged for assistance from big-hearted strangers.
Laura managed to raise £1,500 – well over the £1,000 she asked for – and said she will spend the rest on a headstone.
She said: ‘Hi my name is Laura,
‘My 16-year-old son Makenzie sadly passed away on Saturday night and I live in Glasgow and need to get on the boat to Shetland Friday night latest so I can say good bye to my boy.
‘It’s me and my 3 children I’m on universal credit and don’t have the funds.
‘Any money left over will be used towards my boys head stone.
‘I would just like thank every single one of you for all ur help and support in this difficult time its made things a lot less stress full for me and my kids lots of love to u all xxx.’
Police Scotland said they are conducting inquiries into the tragedy.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 10.45pm on Saturday, September 14, we were made aware of the sudden death of a 16-year-old male youth at a property in the Gulberwick area of Shetland.
“The death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries are ongoing.”
