Dennis Quaid and Meg Ryan’s son Jack Quaid has been making a name for himself in Hollywood, starring in movies like Oppenheimer, Scream, Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and hit shows like The Boys. As of Sept 2024, he has seven projects in production, so he’s a busy bee, to put it lightly. Amid this career high, his dad is allegedly taking credit for helping him get this far, and Ryan isn’t too pleased.
An inside source told InTouch Weekly that Ryan is allegedly quite peeved about Dennis taking credit for Jack’s booming career. They said, “I know comments like the ones Dennis recently made absolutely drive Meg up the wall because of everything she has done for Jack over the years.”
“Anybody who knows Meg knows she is the one who put about a decade into helping Jack become a sought after actor and a bona fide TV star. It’s still tough for Meg and Dennis to have a polite conversation about anything,” the source said to the outlet. “When nobody cared about this kid or even wanted to meet with him, Meg was the one who picked up the phone and pitched Jack to her contacts, not Dennis.”
They added, “It’s absolutely absurd to see Dennis take any credit for Jack’s success when Meg was fully the architect of it and put her own interests aside to help Jack get on his feet in Hollywood, starting more than ten years ago.”
Now, here’s the thing: Dennis has claimed he tried to help Jack for some time now.
Dennis claimed he offered to set Jack up with his agent, but he refused. Dennis told Kelly Clarkson on The Kelly Clarkson Show in Oct 2020 that he knew Jack loved acting at a “very, very, very young age.”
“He had a video camera in his hand when he was like 4 years old, making little videos and stuff. It was just a very natural thing that he did, it wasn’t something we pushed him towards. Ever since he was a kid, it was kinda obvious that he was gonna do that,” he said. “Even more than an actor, he’s really turned out to be a really fine man.”
In a previous cover story with Glamour, Ryan also gushed about her son and remembered the moment she knew he was meant to be an actor. “I remember seeing him in a middle school production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream. He was playing Bottom,” she said. “I was newly divorced from his dad, and he was seated at the other side of the gym. I had my head in my hands and was like, ‘Oh, no. He’s good. He’s really good.’ I leaned forward, and I see Dennis, and he’s also leaning forward with his head in his hands. I just knew.”
Along with that, Jack even said so himself that he doesn’t ask for acting advice from his parents, but is grateful for their support, per People.
For those who don’t know, Quaid and Ryan first fell in love while filming their 1987 movie Innerspace. They married in 1991, and within a year, they welcomed a son named Jack Quaid. However, after nearly a decade of marriage, their relationship came to an end in 2000 amid allegations of infidelity on both sides (which both of them denied, but later alluded to).
In a previous interview with Who’s Talking to Chris Wallace?, Quaid talked about his and Ryan’s marriage, saying, “Meg is really such a great, sweet person, and really talented, and deserved all of her success. I don’t regret anything about my marriage to Meg. We got Jack Quaid out of it, who is really going on to maybe I think eclipse both of us.”
