Celtic v Falkirk – Premiership leaders host unbeaten Championship side in Premier Sports Cup quarter final

CELTIC have started the season with a flyer in the Premiership and meet a team in a similar vein of form on Sunday.

Falkirk are sitting with five wins from five at the top of the Championship – just like the Hoops in the league above.

And the links don’t end there either.

John McGlynn was once Brendan Rodgers‘ opposition scout – now he IS the opposition.

Celtic are looking to get their hands back on the trophy they let slip last season with an early exit to Kilmarnock.

Falkirk are seeking a return trip to Hampden for the first time in 18 months in a competition they’ve never won.

They have defeated Celtic at this stage before though – an epic penalty shoot-out in 2006 sent John Hughes’ Bairns to the semi-final.

And now McGlynn is bidding for the same.

But they’ll have to be the first team to defeat the Hoops this season, and as Slovan Bratislava will testify, that’s no easy feat.

Team news

Brendan Rodgers will rotate his squad after a vital Champions League win midweek.

Cameron Carter-Vickers and Alistair Johnston missed training on Friday after picking up knocks against Slovan Bratislava.

That could see new signing Auston Trusty start his first game for the Hoops after a cameo midweek.

Alex Valle, Yang and James Forrest could be granted game-time with Greg Taylor, Daizen Maeda and Nicolas Kuhn being rested.

And Luke McCowan could also make his first start for his boyhood club.

Falkirk boss John McGlynn will likely field the same side that eliminated Hearts from the competition last month.

But he will be without the suspended Ryan Shanley who was shown a red card in stoppage time of that game.
