Domestic abuse charity worker attacked her ex-partner by slashing his arms with kitchen knife in campaign of violence

A DOMESTIC abuse charity worker attacked her partner by slashing his arms with a kitchen knife in a brutal assault.

Jayne Rudd, 32, stabbed Sam Leopold three times just weeks after he took out a restraining order on her.

She has been jailed for three years[/caption]

The public schoolgirl – a former communications managed with the Olive Pathway domestic abuse charity – had waged a nightmare ordeal against her ex.

She received a suspended sentence last year following a horrific attack on the tree surgeon.

Despite this, the raging thug went to a friend’s house where Sam was staying yelling out his name.

She then knocked the door of its hinges before slashing at her ex with a kitchen knife.

Sam managed to flee to a neighbour’s home and call the police, who found her asleep on the sofa in a drunken stupor.

Rudd has now been jailed for three years and slapped with a new restraining order banning her from contacting her ex for life.

In a victim impact statement, Sam bravely told the court: “I became used to being assaulted by her which I knew wasn’t right but I was aware she had mental health issues.

“She is dangerous to be around and this latest incident is clear evidence of that.

“It doesn’t matter if she has a non-molestation order or a restraining order to protect me. She will always find a way back to me and that me me feel unsafe.

“Although a number of months have passed since this latest incident, it has affected my mental health and I am constantly on edge for when she is eventually released. I am constantly looking over my shoulder.

“I do not wish to see Miss Rudd ever again but I will never know if this is the last time she will contact me.”

How to get help

Men can call Men’s Advice Line on 0808 8010 327 (Monday to Friday 10am to 8pm), or visit the webchat at Men’s Advice Line (Wednesday 10am to 11.30am and 2.30pm to 4pm).

Alternatively, ring ManKind on 0182 3334 244 (Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm) or email info@mensadviceline.org.uk

Manchester Crown Court heard how Rudd was previously been given 34 weeks in jail suspended for 18 months after she verbally abused Sam in a pub before punching him.

He tried to break of contact with his stalker ex but she bombarded him with 300 texts begging for forgiveness.

In September 2022, she was given a community order after mauling a police officer when she refused to leave a property.

Brendan O’Leary, defending, told the court Rudd has mental issues dating back to a childhood trauma.

Sentencing, the judge told her that she was “a highly intelligent woman but with a very troubled history”.

Docs ‘have never removed more eyes’ after Israeli pager blasts as Hezbollah dubs elaborate strike a ‘declaration of war’

LEBANESE doctors have revealed the horrors of the past few days after the deadly pager and walkie-talkie blasts continue to rock the Middle East.

Skilled physicians say they have never had to surgically remove more eyes before as hospitals across the country continue to be filled with victims of the coordinated explosions.

Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah gave a televised address following the blasts[/caption]

Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah spoke today on the chilling attacks against his military group as he labelled the strikes a possible “declaration of war” from Israel.

Israel’s Mossad spy agency allegedly caused the blasts after they were accused of planting a small amount of explosives inside thousands of pagers ordered by Hezbollah months earlier.

Nasrallah added that the group intends to seek revenge for the attacks that “crossed over all the red lines” and will not stop until the war in Gaza ends.

During his speech, Israel are believed to have continued to strike Hezbollah targets inside Lebanon.

Israeli planes reportedly flew at a low altitude over Beirut as Nasrallah spoke with several sonic booms and massive explosions being heard.

The Israeli Defense Forces say the attacks are intended “to degrade Hezbollah’s terrorist capabilities and infrastructure”.

It comes as initial reports say 32 people have been killed with over 3,450 injured as a result of the two-pronged blasts this week.

Doctors across Lebanese hospitals say they have been overwhelmed by a flood of admissions following the two waves of chaos that started when thousands of pagers exploded on Tuesday.

A day later walkie-talkies used by Hezbollah fighters started to vibrate in their pockets before blowing up – leaving many casualties blinded or with seared limbs.

Some of the blasts resulted in fingers or entire hands being ripped off as those who had not taken pagers and walkie talkies from pockets suffered appalling leg and groin injuries.

Dr Elias Warrak, an ophthalmologist at Mount Lebanon University Hospital, described Wednesday as “the worst day of [his] life as a physician”.

He revealed at least 60 per cent of the people he had treated on had lost at least one eye with many losing their sight completely.

Others had faced even more consequences with some suffering brain damage.

He added: “I believe the number of casualties and the type of damage that has been done is humongous.

“Unfortunately, we were not able to save a lot of eyes, and unfortunately the damage is not limited to the eyes – some of them have damage in the brain in addition to any facial damage.”

The Iranian ambassador to Lebanon was one of those who reportedly lost an eye after he was struck by an explosion.

Warrak described the past few days as a “nightmare”, as he spoke with the BBC about working through to 4am on Wednesday.

Lebanon’s Health Minister Firas Abiad said the overcrowding at the countries hospitals was being dealt with by the wounded going to several different hospitals.

He added that Turkey, Iraq, Iran, Syria and Egypt have all offered to help treat patients.

Shocking videos of the two-day blasts circulated on social media showing the wave of explosions striking across Lebanon.

In-store CCTV footage caught people struck down in the middle of their shopping by the pagers on Tuesday.

One shows a man’s bag exploding in a grocer with other shoppers sprinting for their lives away from the man as he is knocked to the ground by the detonation.

Another shows a person paying for items at a till before he checks the pager on his hip and it explodes in his hands.

Other footage showed maimed targets lying on the ground missing hands or fingers and having large wounds on their hips and legs.

Beirut’s street turned to chaos as people fled buildings for safety and the city’s hospitals treated the bloodied survivors.

At least 12 were killed with 3,000 others left wounded, initial reports say.

The second sabotage strikes rocked Lebanon’s south as rigged hand-held radios used by Hezbollah detonated.

Shocking footage shows a bloodied man on the floor as passersby rush to help him and others flee following an explosion in Beirut.

Unfortunately, we were not able to save a lot of eyes, and unfortunately the damage is not limited to the eyes – some of them have damage in the brain in addition to any facial damage

An apartment building and vehicles were also seen on fire as sirens wailed for a second day across the Lebanese capital.

Panicking Hezbollah fighters were even seen tearing the batteries from their walkie-talkies and tossing them into a pile on the ground as ambulances raced to the scene.

The electrical explosions resulted in 20 deaths and left another 450 injured.

Hezbollah and Lebanon immediately blamed Israel for the blasts but PM Benjamin Netanyahu is yet to comment on its alleged involvement.

It comes as Israeli warplanes have blasted Hezbollah military buildings and a weapons depot in seven areas of Lebanon as a “new phase” of its anti terror war ramped up.

Warplanes fired on Shekhin, A-Taiba, Bleida, Mis al-Jabal, Eitaron, al-Khyam and Kfar Kila in southern Lebanon overnight and heavy artillery also opened up across the northern border.

The strikes came as Hezbollah continue to fire rockets into northern Israel.

Five people were injured by rockets towards Upper Galilee in northern Israel.

Two Israeli soldiers have been killed near the border with Lebanon, the IDF said today.

One was killed by a drone with the other being struck by an anti-tank missile fired by Hezbollah.

Israel and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire across the Israeli-Lebanon border in parallel with the war Israel has waged in Gaza against Hamas after October 7.

Tens of thousands of people have had to flee the border area on both sides.

Hezbollah have reportedly killed 26 civilians and 20 soldiers and forced another 80,000 Israelis to head south to escape the blitz.

Netanyahu vowed on Wednesday to return the evacuated Israelis “securely to their homes”.

Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Gallant declared the start of a “new phase” of war as the country’s army moved north.

The announcement paves the way for the first full-scale invasion of southern Lebanon since 2006 in a drive to push back the terror group and allow Israelis to return home.

But the risky move raises the spectre of Hezbollah backers, Iran being drawn into a devastating regional conflict.

Where did the pagers come from?

By James Halpin, Foreign News Reporter

Iranian proxy Hezbollah ordered the pagers months ago but never thought the quaint piece of tech could be tampered with.

Hezbollah shifted to pagers after the group’s leader told members to stop using phones in February over fears they could be tracked by Israeli spies.

A senior Lebanese security source said the group had ordered 5,000 beepers made by Taiwan-based Gold Apollo, which were brought into the country in the spring.

But Gold Apollo told media in Taipei today the specific order was manufactured by BAC Consulting KFT in Budapest.

Gold Apollo boss Hsu Ching-kuang said BAC asked to manufacture their own pagers with the company’s trademark and they were paid from a mystery Middle Eastern bank account, NPR reports.

BAC Consulting chief executive Cristiana Bársony-Arcidiacono confirmed to media that her company worked with Gold Apollo.

But said, “I don’t make the pagers. I am just the intermediate.”

At some point during the manufacture, the devices were modified by Israel’s spy service with a small amount of explosive.

The AR-924 pager is described as being “rugged” and contains a rechargeable lithium battery with 85 days of battery life.

Their longevity would be important in Lebanon which has suffered major power outages.

Pagers also run on a different wireless network than mobile phones, making them more resilient in emergencies and harder for Israel to hack digitally.

The affected pagers were only delivered to Hezbollah recently, but other associates of the group were also injured, including the Iranian ambassador to Lebanon.

British couple holiday in a Spanish caravan park every winter as it's cheaper than staying in the UK

Mike Townsend and his wife Jane said holidaying in Spain during this time of year is much cheaper than staying in the UK...

Mike and Jane have been spending their winters in Spain the last two years.

In April 2021, Mike and Jane purchased a four-birth Elddis motorhome, with a fixed bed at the back for extra comfort.

He told Sun Travel: “Our plan was to explore the UK for two or three years because there are so many great places here that we haven’t been to.

“But two of our friends, who already owned a motorhome, asked if we wanted to go on holiday in Spain.”

On their first motorhome holiday in Spain, they spent five weeks exploring the country.

And when the couple returned to the UK, they started planning their next campervan adventure.

Mike said: “Earlier this year, we spent five weeks driving through Spain and Portugal before we got the ferry back from Santander.”

“On our winter breaks, we try and stay at campsites that are associated with the Caravan and Motorhome Club.”

This is because the Caravan and Motorhome Club has some campsites that cost as little as £12 per night.

The breaks, which include a return ferry crossing with P&O from Dover to Calais, mean Brits spend six to 10 weeks in sunny Spain.

Mr Townsend explained: “We go in February and March to avoid the winter weather here in the UK, and we don’t have to pay for heating.”

It has more than 1,000 pitches, over 200 quality cabins to stay in, and plenty of modern amenities, including a hair salon, supermarket, gym and spa.

There’s also outdoor and heated pools with slides, restaurants, pubs, kids clubs, and playgrounds – everything you could need for a great family holiday.

Availability: From February 26th to March 29th.

Price: From £17 per night for two people staying 31 nights or more.

How secret weapon made Anthony Joshua ‘absolutely devastating’ again with warning Daniel Dubois will ‘go to sleep’

ANTHONY JOSHUA has been moulded into a devastating knockout machine under trainer Ben Davison.

Joshua joined the young coach’s Harlow gym last December before taking apart Otto Wallin in six rounds.

He then brutally knocked out Francis Ngannou in March just five months after the MMA star dropped Tyson Fury in a controversial decision loss.

Joshua, 34, heads into his third bout under Davison on Saturday at Wembley challenging for Daniel Dubois’ IBF title.

And former champion David Haye believes AJ is back to his destructive best – or maybe even better.

He told William Hill’s Up Front with Simon Jordan: “Until he started working with Ben Davison, he didn’t mould his style around his strengths.

“He’s now got some pre-determined punch sequences that are absolutely devastating, he just waits for the right time until he needs to pull the trigger – then people go to sleep.

“AJ is a much better fighter now having lost those two fights than he would’ve been if he’d won – he’s learnt from his mistakes.

“The new Anthony Joshua would smoke the old Anthony Joshua in one round, plain and simple.

“Everything is strategised and sequenced now, and that’s the Ben Davison effect.

Joshua vs Dubois fight predictions

THIS weekend Wembley will witness one of the biggest all-British fights of all-time.

But who will emerge victorious under the famous arch? Some of the biggest names in boxing have been having their say…

Oleksandr Usyk: “My favourite is Anthony Joshua but I am very bad at predictions. But I will predict Anthony Joshua.”

Dillian Whyte: “I just think that it’s one of those fights where it is a genuine 50/50 fight in my opinion.”

Joe Joyce: “I was initially edging with Joshua but I don’t know, Dubois is coming on.”

Frazer Clarke: “As heavy-handed as Dubois is and as good a fighter as he’s becoming, I still have to go for Joshua.”

Francis Ngannou: “Even though Joshua lost against Usyk twice and Dubois fought Usyk and almost knocked him down and almost won, I would still give this to Joshua.”

“He’s starting to understand his strengths and implement them.”

Dubois, 27, comes into the fight having come from behind to beat Filip Hrgovic, 32, for the belt.

He took a succession of right hands before battling back to stop Hrgovic in eight rounds.

But Haye warned Dubois will not be afforded the chance to turn things around like that against in-form AJ.

He said: “If the version of Daniel Dubois who fought Filip Hrgović turns up against AJ on Saturday who was eating right hands all night, I think he’ll have a really tough time.

“He’s got a great chin though, no one can question that.”

I lost 25st after wearing XXXXXXXXL clothes – now I’m stuck with saggy skin that slaps me when I walk and a £230k bill

A MAN who has shed a staggering 25 stone is now being forced to fork out £230,000 to have his excess skin removed.

Cole Prochaska used to weigh 42 stone and wear size 8XL clothes after living on meals like McDonald’s breakfasts, pizza, burgers and at least two litres of fizzy drinks a day.

Swapping junk food for salads, lean beef and protein shakes, and committing to walking as much as possible, he shed an incredible 25 stone in just two years and now wears a size 1XL.

While the 40-year-old is overjoyed to have a new lease of life, the journey is far from over.

His rapid weight loss left loose skin hanging off his torso, arms and legs, which all together weighs up to a stone.

Cole says he’s in physical discomfort, as the skin slaps against his body when he moves.

His confidence is also affected, as he still hesitates to show off his impressive results.

The 40-year-old requires expensive surgery to remove the excess skin, including three operations on his arms, back, legs, stomach and chest.

“It really affects my confidence and mental health,” Cole, from Columbia, South Carolina, told What’s The Jam.

“I worked really hard and I can still see the leftovers of that fat guy.

“I still can’t go to the beach or pool, and I don’t take my shirt off.

“A lot of my weight is the skin. It weighs at least one stone.

“It’s really killing me. I can’t run because it slaps around.

“It’s aggravating.”

The asset protection investigator first started putting weight on when he was just six years old, following a stressful house move.

Cole’s diet got worse as he became a teenager, when would snack on sweets, crisps and fizzy drinks after eating meals cooked by his mum.

He said: “My mum and dad worked, so we just had whatever they could make.

“We had tacos, burgers and always did pizza and movie Fridays.”

Food became the Cole’s comfort in the years following and as an adult, he would turn to takeaways and high-fat meals.

At his biggest, Cole couldn’t fit on a rollercoaster or into a booth at a restaurant and was often out of breath.

He recalled: “I was getting bigger and bigger. Food was my comfort.

“Pizza was my favourite. I liked cakes, sweets, crisps and junk food.

“I used to eat until I went to sleep and I weighed more than the scales could measure.

“It affected my health; I couldn’t get up the stairs without getting out of breath.

“I couldn’t fit on a rollercoaster or into a booth at a restaurant, and I just had to hope that chairs would hold me up.”

“My feet hurt so bad and they were swollen.

“I didn’t want to go out and be seen.

“I lived my life hoping I wouldn’t die.”

ONE STEP AT A TIME

Cole finally decided to transform his life after fearing he’d be diagnosed with diabetes in 2021.

When his seven-year relationship also came to an end, he decided that enough was enough.

Cole said: “I was trying to save my relationship by losing weight but I ended up saving myself.

“People in my family have diabetes and I didn’t want to end up that way as well.

“I didn’t want diabetes or die and leave a legacy being this guy who is funny but never took care of his health.”

Cole took on a one-day-at-a-time approach – starting by cutting out sugary drinks and junk food, and going for regular walks.

He then moved on to doing full-body work outs and muscle lifts.

Diet before and after weight loss

Cole’s diet before his weight loss:

  • Breakfast: Either no breakfast or McDonald’s double sausage sandwich with egg, cheese and hash browns
  • Lunch: No lunch
  • Dinner: Two burgers with fries, one and a half large pizzas
  • Snacks: Two litres of fizzy pop, sweets and a share bag of crisps

Cole’s diet after his weight loss:

  • Breakfast: No breakfast
  • Lunch: Protein shake, lean beef, burger steak with potatoes and carrots
  • Dinner: Eggs, lean beef, chicken
  • Snacks: Rice Krispie treat or a protein yoghurt

But he says he couldn’t have done it without the support of his friends and family who “always believed in him”.

Cole said: “I started walking and moving a little bit more every day.

“I started eating better and stopped snacking on crisps and chocolate, as well as cut back on bread and sugar.

“Salads became my main meal.

“I learned more about food and joined a gym.”

Cole recalled feeling self-conscious when he first started working out.

“It’s very hard joining the gym as a bigger man,” he said.

“You assume that everyone is looking at you and sometimes they are but they’re happy to see you there.”

ANYONE CAN DO IT

Cole was able to make impressive progress and boasts a muscles physique.

“I do full body splits, combo lifts and I slowly added more muscle specific lifts.

“Now, my health and life is amazing.

“It’s getting better every day.

“I used to get comments about my size all the time. I tried not to show that it hurt to hear.

“In public, people would call me fat. Kids are the worst because they say whatever they’re thinking.

“A kid would point and say ‘look how big that guy is’ and that really bothered me inside.”

Since his weight loss, old school friends and colleagues have walked past Cole in the street without recognising him.

He said: “My friends and family are so proud and happy for me.

“They’ve always been supportive.

“I’ve walked past people I went to school with or used to work with and they will walk straight by.

“I stop them and they’ll say they didn’t even know it was me.”

Cole is fundraising to raise approximately £85,000 ($100,000) to contribute towards his surgery.

He may have to start another fundraiser to raise the rest of the cash.

He added: “Anyone can do this and I’m proof of that.

“It’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle change.

“Life’s only getting better for me and I can’t wait to have my skin cut off.”

You can contribute to his fundraiser here.

Cole's weight loss tips: Start small

Cole refers to his journey as a “lifestyle change” instead of just sticking to a diet.

He started off small – cutting down on sugary drinks and junk food.

He also started making an effort to walk more.

Once that was easier, he then moved on to going to the gym.

There he started doing full body workouts and muscle lifts.

“Anyone can do this and I’m proof of that,” Cole says.

Is the I’m on Top of the World Suite the best in Spain?

Holidaymakers who want to glimpse the glittering life of a celebrity might want to book an overnight stay at the I’m on Top of the World suite.

Located on the eighth floor of the Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel, the suite spans for 200 square metres.

It has all the features you’d expect to find inside a plush hotel suite, including a king-size bed, a cluster of armchairs, a walk-in wardrobe, two bathrooms and a dining room table.

The sprawling suite has plenty of wow-factor amenities like a jacuzzi in the bedroom, a DJ table and stereo system, a huge 63-inch flat-screen TV and a champagne fridge.

There’s also a balcony with sofa beds, armchairs, hammocks and a jacuzzi – in case you were worried one wasn’t enough.

Guests are also given a Hermes welcome kit and a bottle of champagne upon arrival.

Some interesting extras can also be requested like tattoo kits and a bar stocked with alcoholic drinks.

And it’s not just the amenities that make the suite arguably one of the best in Spain, it’s the hotel services that are available to guests like a complimentary massage and preferential treatment over sunbeds.

Away from the rooms, there’s plenty to keep guests entertained like the hotel’s well-known stage where music legends have performed.

There are plenty of other amenities in the hotel, including five restaurants and two pools.

What is it like to stay at Ushuaïa Ibiza Beach Hotel?

I’d already visited Ibiza four times, but for my 40th I wanted to go all out and stay at the cult hotel and club Ushuaïa, which opened in 2011. After all, you don’t go to Ibiza to sleep (although we did get some kip in the enormous bed and on the private beach).

Follow the beat
Just 10 minutes drive from Ibiza airport, we get our first glimpse of the Ushuaïa Tower, clad with giant wildflowers.

The aroma of mandarin and ginger, the hotel’s signature fragrance, wafts down the red carpet, while the modern arty decor, electronic dance soundtrack and welcome treats of sex on the beach cocktail lollies show us that we’ve found the right place.

From frogs dancing in the flowerbeds to giant ants climbing the whitewashed walls, the design is unique. There’s the spectacular party pool, private plunge pools and Playa d’en Bossa’s golden sands just steps away.

Everyone who’s anyone has played Ushuaïa, and this year Calvin Harris returns to a residency, alongside David Guetta and Swedish House Mafia. If you’re staying at the hotel, you’re on the guest list!

Our superior double room has mirrored walls, a waterfall shower, Clarins toiletries and a “maxibar” with spirits and snacks plus glitter tattoos and diamanté face masks.

Chilling new vid of doomed Titan sub wreckage strewn across ocean floor shows dome crew peered through before implosion

A CHILLING new video of the doomed Titan sub wreckage strewn across the ocean floor shows the dome the crew may have peered through before the implosion.

It comes as part of a two-week-long hearing into the tragedy that killed five people held in Charlestown, South Carolina, by the US Coast Guard.

More than 3,700m down on the seafloor lays the remains of the Titan submersible.

A new harrowing video of the remains shows “the aft dome, aft ring, remnants of the hull and carbon fibre debris”, the US Coast Guard said.

This could mean the five men on board may have peered out of the dome before tragically dying in the horrific implosion.

OceanGate’s former operations boss David Lochridge revealed earlier this week that the viewport and elements of the dome ceilings deviated from standard design processes.

Lochridge claimed said he was “appalled” by the O-ring – a type of seal.

He said: “There was so many laminations, so many voids. The imperfections were incredible.

“There was glue runs everywhere. And that’s a red flag.”

He described the hull as “porous paper. It was disgusting”.

He added: “Everything was reused.

“They reused these domes. They reused these ceiling faces. They reused the acrylic. They reused the interior. Everything was reused. It’s all cost.”

Lochridge was fired from the company in 2018 and had signed a non-disclosure agreement, preventing him from talking about OceanGate.

The former employee said he was glad he had been subpoenaed for the hearing so he could talk about the issues he had raised.

He also told the panel how the OceanGate CEO Stockton Rush allegedly threw a controller at his head in a heated disagreement after crashing the doomed sub.

The world was captivated when the sub vanished from sonar and failed to resurface from a dive 12,500ft down to the Titanic wreckage in the north Atlantic.

The hearing is exploring what went wrong on the day and the processes operator OceanGate went through when building the Titan.

It was revealed in the hearing that the last words from crew to the support ship Polar Prince said everything was “all good here”.

Audio became more spotty as it descended, with the Polar Prince asking if the Titan could see the Titanic on its display.

The Titan was still able to send one message when the submersible was 3,341m deep – an hour-and-a-half after it began its journey.

How the Titan tragedy unfolded

Five men plunged beneath the surface of the North Atlantic in a homemade sub in the hopes of exploring the Titnaic wreckage last year.

Four passengers paid £195,000 to go on the sub, with the fifth member of the trip being a crew.

But what was supposed to be a short trip spiralled into days of agony as the doomed Titan vanished without a trace on June 18, 2023.

The daring mission had been months in the making – and almost didn’t happen at the hands of harsh weather conditions in Newfoundland, Canada.

In a now chilling Facebook post, passenger Hamish Harding wrote: “Due to the worst winter in Newfoundland in 40 years, this mission is likely to be the first and only manned mission to the Titanic in 2023.

“A weather window has just opened up and we are going to attempt a dive tomorrow.”

It would be his final Facebook post.

The following morning, he and four others – led by Stockton Rush – began the 12,5000ft descent towards the bottom of the Atlantic.

But as it made its way down into the depths, the vessel lost all contact with its mother ship of the surface, the Polar Prince.

It sparked a frantic four day search for signs of life, with the hunt gripping the entire world.

There was hope that by some miracle, the crew was alive and desperately waiting to be saved.

But that sparked fears rescue teams were in a race against time as the sub only had a 96-hour oxygen supply when they set out, which would be quickly dwindling.

Then, when audio of banging sounds were detected under the water, it inspired hope that the victims were trapped and signalling to be rescued.

It heartbreakingly turned out that the banging noises were likely either ocean noises or from other search ships, the US Navy determined.

Countries around the world deployed their resources to aid the search, and within days the Odysseus remote-operated vehicle (ROV) was sent down to where the ghostly wreck of the Titanic sits.

The plan was for the ROV to hook onto the sub and bring it up 10,000ft, where it would meet another ROV before heading to the surface.

But any hopes of a phenomenal rescue were dashed when Odysseus came across a piece of debris from the sub around 1,600ft from the Titanic.

The rescue mission tragically then became a salvage task, and the heartbroken families of those on board were told the devastating news.

It was confirmed by the US Coast Guard that the sub has suffered a “catastrophic implosion”.

The message read: “dropped two wts” and was sent at 10.47am.

Six seconds after the message was sent the Titan was pinged for the final time at a depth of 3,346m.

There was no communications between it and the Polar Prince mother ship the indicated any trouble or emergency on board the sub.

The Polar Prince began to realise the worst had happened when it sent a message to the Titan at 10.49am saying it had “lost tracking”.

They continued to message the doomed sub every two to three minutes, but by 11.15am they told the Polar Prince’s master there had been a loss of communication.

US authorities said a “catastrophic implosion” occurred, killing all on board instantly.

On board were British explorer Hamish Harding, British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood and his son Suleman, OceanGate’s CEO Stockton Rush and French deep-sea explorer Paul-Henri Nargeolet.

The coast guard were eventually called at 6.27pm after the Polar Prince had spent three hours searching.

“Presumed human remains” were recovered from the ocean floor in two recovery operations.

The remains were taken ashore and were matched with the profiles of the victims on board the submersible.

The hearing also heard that in 2018 the vessel was struck by lightning which left a “significant blow to the structure”.

That caused it to fail a test by a wide margin.

Rapid decompression also occurred during testing phases of the project years earlier, the hearing heard.

bombshell new lawsuit claims the explorers knew they were going to die after a failed last bid to save themselves.

OceanGate, the company that built the Titan, released a statement offering their “deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died”.

The spokesperson said: “There are no words to ease the loss endured by the families impacted by this tragic accident.”

The hearing is scheduled to last two weeks.
