I’m an unemployed ex-Arsenal star… I’m training with little-known, hand-picked squad in desperate bid to find new club

A FORMER Arsenal star has lifted the lid on their bid to find a new club.

The defender, 32, played 70 times for the Gunners between 2011 and 2019.

The former Arsenal star has taken part in a PFA scheme for free agents[/caption]

After three loan moves away from the Emirates he left permanently five years ago, landing a switch to Nottingham Forest.

He last played in English football for the Tricky Trees in 2021, before heading Down Under to continue his career in the A-League.

Following three years in Australia, the Harlow-born ace is back in the UK as a free agent, and is determined to prove his fitness to a prospective new club.

He recently sat down with former England goalkeeper Ben Foster on the “Fozcast” to describe his search for a new club, and how he has kept fit while training with a whole squad of free agents.

During their conversation, Carl Jenkinson admitted that he stumbled into the PFA scheme while training with pal and ex-Brentford centre-back Charlie Goode.

“I didn’t know about it until about five weeks in,” he admitted. “It was just through word of mouth.

“One of the lads I was training with on my own, who used to play for Brentford, Charlie Goode, who’s now at Stevenage – he just said to me one day as we were doing a session with a coach ‘have you heard about this PFA programme?’

“I didn’t know anything about it. He said ‘I’ll send you over the details tonight’ and started explaining what it was all about.

“It was literally the next day I said ‘look, I’ve read through all the details, it sounds unbelievable,’ It’s exactly what we need.

“I said ‘Chaz, you need to be there as well’. So we both, literally the day after, went up there.”

Foster, who retired last year following a spell at Wrexham, then explained that to be part of the PFA scheme you have to be a footballer, member of the union, and out of contract to be eligible to join up with the squad.

It was then pointed out that the squad is 30-strong, and that with around 600 professional footballers released in England every year, the process is not that simple.

Jenkinson continued: “It’s not if you apply, you’re in. It’s an application process.”

He then revealed that the CEO had told him that the camp was aimed more at experienced pros, rather than those that had been released straight from academies.

Goode, 29, went on to sign for League One Stevenage on August 5, and has since gone on to make six appearances in all competitions.

But Jenkinson, who earned one England cap in 2012, remains without a club.

With the PFA scheme having finished, the full-back revealed that he is still training and keeping fit as he hopes to return to the game.

Who are these famous footballers?

Jenkinson then admitted that clubs are more focused on recruiting young players, and that he would have liked the PFA camp to extend beyond the end of the summer transfer window.

When Foster pointed out that clubs are looking to sign players aged, “30, 31, 32 max” – Jenkinson replied: “I’d actually say less.

“Just from feedback I’ve had from clubs, not just for myself, but for some of my mates – you’re talking 27 these days.

“One of my pals was talking to a Premier League club, and they were like ‘we don’t sign players over 27’.

During his time at Arsenal, Jenkinson won the FA Cup in 2014.

He also picked up silverware Down Under, winning the A-League Premiership with Melbourne City.

The autumn sunshine spot 3 hours from Dublin with temps of 24C, surfing and buzzing nightlife

TAKE a look at the stunning autumn sunshine spot just three hours from Dublin – with 24C heat, surfing and a buzzing nightlife scene.

The town was named one of the Best Tourism Villages by the UN World Tourism Organisation last year and continues to impress visitors to this day.

In a small seaside community in western Portugal lies one of only two European spots in the World Surfing Reserves known for its exceptional coastline conditions.

Ericeira is a traditional Portuguese fishing village located just 40km northwest of the busy capital city Lisbon.

With highs of 24C this month and the promise of remaining in the low 20s throughout October, this is the perfect location to catch the last of the European sunshine.

The quaint town is known for its narrow cobblestone streets, local culture, fishing, cuisine and the bold Atlantic views.

It’s proximity to the Atlantic and the surf make this town a great place to visit.

Food lovers can enjoy endless great restaurants and cosy cafes to feast on the local fresh sea food and typical Portuguese delicacies such as the pastel de nata.

The area is known for its affordability and versatility, with not only amazing Portuguese cuisine.

You’ll also find many non-Portuguese restaurants from pizza to sushi and multiple places for a quick bite between the surf sessions.

If night-life is what you are after, the town is home to plenty of cool bars to spend your evenings in.

And even a nightclub called ‘Ouriço’ where the party continues until dawn.

With flights from Dublin starting as low as €27 and taking just two hours and 50 minutes to get there, this location is ideal for all sea lovers.

From Lisbon airport it is just a 30 minute drive to the centre of Ericeira.

The village is famous for being the second World Surfing Reserve – a program that protects waves, surf zones and surrounding environments.

Although surfing is not the only water sport that you can enjoy in this village.

Visitors can also practice many other water sports such as fishing or stand up paddle boarding.

And even if you are more suited to land based activities, there is something for everyone here.

Mountain biking, horseback riding, hiking or skateboarding are just a few of the activities to check out.

And to keep your body and mind fit you can take yoga classes or visit the spa in town.

Some 25 km outside of Ericeira you can find the UNESCO World Heritage town of Sintra, also known as the town of the fairytale castles.

It is located within the Sintra mountains and right next to the Sintra-Cascais natural park.

Only 10 km from Ericeira is the Palace of Mafra, one of the biggest palaces in Europe that was built by the King John V in the 18th century and is said to have nearly bankrupted the whole nation!

The Mafra Palace is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2020 and is bursting with history.

Although even if you choose to stay in the centre of Ericeira town, there is still an abundance of history within the old towns walls waiting to be explored.

Five more autumn spots to visit

HERE are five more destinations to soak up the last of the year's sunshine.

  1. Gran Canaria is just one of the very many options, boasting a “very mild winter” each year. Located on one of Spain’s Canary Islands, off northwestern Africa, Gran Canaria is well-known for its black lava and white sand beaches.
And steady temps of 22C throughout the winter.
  2. The Cyclades island in the Aegean Sea looks like a place straight out of a fairytale and even has flights for less than €90 from Dublin Airport.
Santorini, located in Greece is calling your name as the peak tourist season comes to an end but the hot sunshine isn’t.
Roam the peaceful black-sand beaches or stroll the streets of one of Santorini’s charming villages.
  3. Tuscany stretches from the Tyrrhenian Sea to the Apennines and is located in west-central Italy.
With breath-taking beaches, Mediterranean islands and highs of 23C in October, this European spot has something for everyone.
  4. The island of Sardinia in Italy is home to nearly 2,000km of stunning coastline. With average highs of 23C throughout October this is the prime month to visit and avoid large crowds.
It’s a great time of year to swim in the sea, with the water at an average temperature of 22C.
  5. Cordoba in southern Spain is the capital of the province and the ideal place for an autumn getaway.
The city enjoys temperatures from 18 to 24C even into the month of October, so visitors can soak up the last of the sunshine.
And it’s just three hours from Dublin Airport with Ryanair operating regular flights to the city’s closest airport in Malaga for just €24.99.

I’m a bikini waxer & we can tell your secrets when you come in – we know when you’ve been getting frisky, here’s how

WHILE some of us like to embrace the natural bush down there, others prefer to have a more smooth and softer feel.

But did you know your waxer can tell an awful lot about you, including what you’ve been up to the night before, simply by looking at what’s hiding under your panties?

Got a bikini wax appointment coming up? Here are three secrets your beauty pro can tell just by looking at your lower half[/caption]

According to Jessica, 29, waxers can tell if you’ve had sex the night before
tiktok/@thebrazilianwaxcompany

That’s right, according to one beauty whizz, Jessica Normanton, there’s no hiding any secrets when you’re popping in for a bikini wax – and they even know if you’ve been enjoying a pre-sleep romp.

Taking to TikTok, the 29-year-old blonde, from Halifax, West Yorkshire, spilled the beans on clients’ secrets and the vital clues that give it all away.

Getting jiggy

”If you come to an appointment the night after having sex, we know,” she chuckled in the video.

”During an intimate wax, you don’t wear knickers. So if you’ve done sex the night before your appointment and there’s some kind of leakage, we’re gonna see that.

”It’s totally fine – but just so you know, we do know.”

Shaving in-between visits

By now, most of us know that you shouldn’t shave in-between your wax appointments, as it can lead to uneven hair growth, ingrown hairs and even skin irritation.

But if you’ve gone behind your waxer’s back and have reached for that razor, there’s no fooling the pro – they’ll be able to tell.

”Don’t tell us ‘No, no, I’ve let it to grow since the last wax’.

”You haven’t! Why is it now stubbly again? Why is it thick and why is it coarse? You shaved.”

To get the ultimate smooth finish, the blonde stunner urged beauty lovers to ditch the razor in-between the appointments and ”let the bush grow”.

”She’ll whip it off and we’ll be good to go.”

Not following aftercare

We all know that life gets busy sometimes and it’s difficult to keep on top of things – but looking after your lower half after a waxing appointment is essential.

As well as exfoliating between three to four times a week, the expert advised to moisturise every single day.

”If you tell me you’ve been doing that and I can see dry, flaky little patches on your skin, I know you’re lying.

”Just do the aftercare.”

Why women should wear bikinis no matter their age or shape

IF you think you should hide your body this summer - think again!

Fabulous Magazine’s Fashion Director, Tracey Lea Sayer has

Times have changed since 2015 when Protein World spent £250,000 on an ad campaign of a slim 20-something bikini clad model asking the reader “Are you beach body ready?” The uproar that followed about the objectification of women was global. Branded offensive, irresponsible and harmful, the verdict on the campaign and the social media uproar was well documented, and rightly so.

Now, I am happy to say that all sizes of women are represented in swimwear across the media landscape. Brands like JD Williams, In The Style and New Look, to name just a few, all work with models of all sizes and ages to promote their swimwear.

My social media feed is also full of ladies of all ages and sizes looking Fabulous in their swimmies. What started out as a trickle of shy bikini-clad selfies has now become a body-positive movement that makes us all feel good to get into our swimwear.

And why shouldn’t we! Our bodies are all completely different and we should be celebrating that fact.

At 53, I love bikinis, I love having an all over tan in the summer with as few white bits as possible. I don’t want to dumb myself down as I get older, I want to celebrate that I am still here! My aim is to keep on wearing bikinis well into my 80s if I am lucky enough to get there.

I have learnt to love the aging process. I will never look like I did in my 20s again, but I do enjoy looking after myself way more than I did back then. A better diet, more exercise and a lot of self-care makes me feel good on the inside as well as the outside.

I love that other cultures like to celebrate their elders. I think we should embrace this in western society instead of just fetishizing youth.

Aging isn’t something to be feared but embraced.

Wear the damn bikini, I am going to!

Jessica found herself homeless at 16, with no money and no parents to support her.

However, she turned her life around after she was fostered and decided to follow her dream of owning her own successful business.

Sharing advice to others, she said: “If you want to do something but you’re a bit too scared, and it’s a bit of a risk and a bit scary for you to put yourself in that environment, just do it.

“Just do it because I can tell you now, you will sit back and look and think, I’m so glad I did that, I’m so glad I took that risk.

“I have gone from being homeless to now running a business that I love.

“I love my job. I never get up and think, I’ve got to go to work and I’m not even just saying that, I genuinely do.

“I’m so grateful for everybody that supports me and for all the clients that walk through that door.

“The old Jess lives inside of me and every single day she’s grateful for the life that I have now.”

Emmy Award-winning actress Kristen Johnston has said the SATC appearance was a standout moment in her career, after she fell out of an open window as her New York party girl character, in an episode named “Splat!”

Now, years on from her Sex And The City days, the actress still looks glam and timeless.

She said she felt like she was in the Beatles after Sex And The City, due to the fame that came with it.

In an interview, Kristen told Today: “When it aired, I was living in New York. I mean, I was like, ‘Oh my God, this must be like what really being famous is like’ because the next day, I live in the Village and it was like, everybody was shouting, ‘Hey queen! Can you do my outgoing message?’

“This is back when we had voicemail. They were like, ‘Can you be my outgoing message and say ‘New York is over!’ And that went on for like three months.

“I felt a little bit like I was the Beatles or something. I had never had a reaction to anything like this.”

Kristen has also appeared in movies such as Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me and The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas.

And she’s also well-known for her role as Sally Solomon in 3rd Rock from the Sun, for which she won the Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the actress will be heading over to Netflix for an untitled project from co-creator Chuck Lorre.

It’s set to be a 16-episode multicamera sitcom, but a premiere timeframe has not yet been determined.

The actress has previously spoken about how she was “married” to drugs after finding fame on 3rd Rock from the Sun.

The award-winning Mom star described her addiction as an “abusive relationship” in a revealing interview.

Kristen Johnston's career

Kristen Johnston is an American Actress who played an obnoxious but loveable role in iconic series Sex And The City.

She’s also starred in the following:

  • 3rd Rock from the Sun

  • ER
  • Bored To Death
  • The Exes
  • Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me
  • Finding Bliss
  • Bad Parents
  • Bride Wars
  • L!fe Happens
  • Vamps
  • Strangers With Candy
  • Lovesick

Kristen spoke to Elizabeth Vargas about her addiction battle on her Heart of the Matter podcast.

She revealed: “It was like an on-off relationship for four years, and it only became really bad after 3rd Rock.

“I was able to keep a lid on it for a couple of years, and then we became married, me and my opiates, a couple of years after 3rd Rock, and it was a very, very abusive relationship.”

She recalled how fame and success came at a high price, adding: “The work was fun, but everything that came with it was so terrifying to me, and I didn’t realize until later that I lived in a state of absolute panic for 10 years.

“Like just, ugh, I’m going to be found out. I’m being chased by paparazzi.

“They’re going through my garbage. They’re going to write crap about it. My mom’s going to see.”

When 3rd Rock wrapped Kristen moved to London for a role in a play, but she admitted her mindset was “all that matters is getting the drugs.”

She recounted after spending a New Year’s Eve in the hospital, she was ready to make a change.

Kristen relayed: “I call it the dark night of my soul. I saw all these fireworks, and everyone was outside at the Eye.

“I could see the London Eye from my hospital bed, and it just occurred to me that there are people standing there watching that outside.

“They’re with their friends and their family, and they are not worried about where their next pills are.”

Chilling moment predator prowls street for victim with his trousers down before attacking two women

THIS is the chilling moment a predator prowls the streets for a victim with his trousers down before attacking two women.

Leo Payne was captured in broad daylight strolling through Swansea city centre while exposing himself.

He has now been jailed for 16 years

The 20-year-old set upon one lone woman after spotting her on the street, chillingly telling her: “You’re coming with me.”

She managed to hit him with her flask and run away – but Payne caught up with her and grabbed her in the middle of the road.

The brave victim punched him in the face before two taxi marshals rushed over and chased Payne off with his trousers down.

The fiend then attempted to rape a second woman around 40 minutes later as she made her way from the bus station.

He claimed he was holding a knife while he sexually assaulted the terrified victim.

His vile attack only came to an end when the woman, who suffered cut lips, knees and bruising, shouted for help.

Payne has now been jailed for 16 years after admitting two counts of attempted rape and sexual assault.

The predator, who will serve 11 years and three months of his sentence in jail, also pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and GBH.

Swansea Crown Court heard Payne was caught “prowling” the busy city centre on June 23 this year.

He was also seen exposing himself and performing a sex act in public before hitting a man with a wine bottle when he tried to stop him.

He was caught because of his “distinctive colourful top” that was seen on camera.

Judge Paul Thomas KC said Payne had “a profound and long lasting effect” on the victims, who will take a long time to “fully recover from the horrendous ordeal”.

He placed the fiend on the sex offenders register for life to “protect women from you in the future“.

Iwan Jenkins, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS Cymru-Wales, said: “Leo Payne prowled the city centre carrying out a campaign of terrifying sexual attacks and violent offences.

“His victims fought back and thanks to their efforts we were able to work with South Wales police to bring a successful prosecution which will see Payne spending time behind bars for his sick crimes.”
