RTE Fair City’s controversial character is returning to Carrigstown after five years off air.

Things have been heating up majorly this month as the soap celebrates its 35th anniversary.

And to mark the occasion, several huge characters are returning to Carrigstown.

Tonight Ciarán Holloway, who’s played by Johnny Ward, resurfaces after five years off air.

Ciarán is most famous for keeping Katy O’Brien in a box for over a year, as revenge against her brother Emmett.

After he kidnapped her and she got away, 13 months later, he then came back and took her grandmother Rose, before fleeing in 2019.

The storyline gripped the nation, with an online #freeKaty campaign launched and frequent mentions on Liveline.

The infamous villain stuns Damien in prison when he makes his presence known inside.

Damien was arrested after he lashed out at James but knocked over Buckley in the process.

On Thursday night, Damien befriends a prison guard Dessie, who warns him to steer clear of the erratic Ciaran.

Damien lets his guard down to Dessie, who offers him tips on surviving inside.

Damien rebuffs Ciaran’s attempts to talk, but inmates Cathal and Conan clock their interaction.

Damien sees Cathal passing contraband to Conan. When Dessie calls an impromptu shake down of all cells and inmates, Cathal is convinced that Damien ratted them out.

Ciaran covers for Cathal during the cell search. Ciaran vouches for Damien, but Cathal has his sights set on revenge.

SIBLING RETURN

Damien stresses when Dessie informs him that he’s getting a new cellmate.

Damien is stunned when his new cell mate is revealed to be Jimmy Doyle.

Jimmy is played by David Mitchell, who had been on the show for 17 years before his character emigrated in 2009 and David followed in his footsteps to move to America. 

Jimmy’s sister Suzanne, Sarah Flood, is also gearing up for a return.

Suzanne’s character was a huge part of a domestic violence storyline in 2010, that saw her control and beat husband Damien Halpin, even purposively burning him with a hot iron. 

In 2013, she left the show after playing the character for 22 years, starting when she was just 8.

KIERAN Trippier is “desperate” to move on from Newcastle United – and three top European clubs are racing to sign the defender.

The retired England full-back almost left St James Park in the summer, but was unable to secure a deal before the transfer window slammed shut.

SunSport understands Eddie Howe would like to keep the ex-Atletico Madrid and Spurs star, but Trippier has told the club he’s desperate for game-time, and wants to move on in January.

And he’s indicated he wants a fresh start outside the Premier League and overseas.

Three clubs are now vying for his signature.

Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce are believed to be in the driving seat, having shown an interest in the player over the summer.

Italian clubs AC Milan and Atalanta are also monitoring developments, though.

All three clubs are believed to be keen to explore the option of loaning Trippier with a view to signing him permanently next summer.

However, Newcastle are believed to be keen to tie up a permanent deal.

Newcastle turned down a bid of £15million from Bayern Munich for Trippier last January.

At 33, it is thought Trippier is desperate to play regular first-team football and he has retired from international football to focus on getting the most out of his club career.

Meanwhile, his wife Charlotte has moved 200 miles across the country to start a new life with their kids.

The mum-of-three has also ditched her wedding ring after Trippier was spotted without his.

However, the couple have not commented publicly on the rumours they have split.

But according to Marca, Vinicius has been informed he will collect the prize at the ceremony on October 28.

And it is understood there are plans to dedicate Madrid’s Nike store to Vinicius with an image of him on display and a gold theme throughout the shop.

If triumphant, the Brazilian would become the fourth different Real Madrid player to win the award in the last seven years.

He would join an elite club that also includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Luka Modric and Karim Benzema.

Lionel Messi is the only non-Real Madrid player in the last 15 years to have won the Ballon d’Or – having collected it on a record EIGHT occasions between 2009 and 2023.

Including the now retired Toni Kroos, who hung up his boots as a Real Madrid player at the end of last season, Vinicius is one of six Los Blancos stars on the 30-player shortlist for the men’s award.

Bellingham, Kylian Mbappe, Antonio Rudiger and Fede Valverde were also recognised after securing the club’s 15th European crown.

Vinicius spoke last month about the Brazilian legends that have inspired him to win the Ballon d’Or.

He told ESPN: “I have Kaka as an example, I have Ronaldo [Nazario] who won the award twice, I have Ronaldinho, Rivaldo, a lot of Brazilian players who have won the Ballon d’Or.

“But without a doubt, Ronaldo and Ronaldinho are the ones I’m closest with, who tell me every day that I have to win the Ballon d’Or.

“I was with Ronaldo just now when I was in Ibiza and trained at his house and he told me: ‘Train here a few more days, so you are closer to the Ballon d’Or.’

“They are players who did incredible things and to be able to compete for the Ballon d’Or and to win an award that they won, that would be something really incredible.”

The woman, who describes herself as ”middle-aged, menopausal and mean”, explained that whilst she doesn’t wash her tresses every day, she showers on a daily basis.

As Mrs Clark didn’t have a shower cap, this meant her locks would get wet whenever she gave herself a wash – so, she decided to order some from the online retailer.

Selling for an affordable $4.99 (£3.74) for a pack of two, the woman thought she’d managed to get hands on the ultimate deal.

But little did Mrs Clark know that she’d get more than she’d bargained for, sharing the hilarious flop on her page.

In hysterics at how ginormous the caps were, the woman modelled the massive baby pink shower essential on her head, unable to contain her laughter.

”I look like I’m about to bake,” the online shopper was amused by the cheap buy, thinking it made her look like a pastry chef.

”This is the biggest shower cap I’ve ever seen – and I’ve got two of them.”

Needless to say, the epic fail has taken the platform by storm, winning Mrs Clark close to a whopping 685k views in just one day.

As thousands gave the video a like, hundreds flocked to comments to share their thoughts, with many posting their best jokes.

One, for example, compared the woman to a popular animated supervillain from a 2010 movie.

”Shower cap, Megamind edition.”

Another chuckled, writing: ”Ohhh remember the old hairdryers that had a hood connected to a hose.”

Someone else had found their perfect shower cap, demanding the woman to drop the details.

”Can you link these? I need those, I have long hair & can’t find any that fit!”

”it’s like Strawberry Shortcake or something,” a fourth chimed in, left in stitches.

”imagine to open the door like this,” someone else penned.

How often should you be showering?

A dermatologist has argued that we don't need to shower everyday.

The sweet spot is actually around every two to three days, depending on your lifestyle.

Dr. Mary Stevenson, assistant professor of dermatology at NYU Langone Health in New York, US claimed that how often you shower should depend on a number of personal factors.

Because after all, personal hygiene is just that – personal.

These factors include your skin, age and activity level.

Dr Stevenson suggested “you should be showering, bathing or cleansing yourself every two to three days”.

However, if you’re a gym bunny working up a sweat everyday, then you should be hosing yourself down after each workout.
