Vaccinate NOW to avoid ‘tripledemic’ of viruses, warn NHS chiefs as millions offered new jab – check if you’re eligible

VACCINATE now to avoid a ‘tripledemic’ of viruses, NHS chiefs have warned – as millions are offered a new jab.

Brits are being urged to book their winter vaccinations for flu, covid-19 and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) on Monday.

Public health bosses said the three viruses could combine in a “tripledemic”.

NHS vaccine chief Michelle Kane said: “Vaccination is a vital part of our preparations for what’s expected to be another challenging winter.

“There are concerns about a potential ‘tripledemic’ of RSV, Covid-19 and flu during an already busy period.

“Vaccines help protect people — and those around them — so I would urge everyone eligible to get their flu, Covid-19 and RSV jabs booked.”

She added: “Booking is simple either online, via the NHS App or by calling 119.”

NHS England’s Prof Julian Redhead said: “Staff in urgent and emergency care have worked incredibly hard over the last year.

“Patient safety is our number priority and will be the focus for providers this winter.

“Vaccines are a crucial way of protecting people against the spread of viruses and reducing strain on the NHS.

“So I would urge everyone eligible to get their flu, Covid-19 and RSV jabs booked.”

He added: “As ever people should come forward for care in the usual way.”

Millions of people will get winter jabs for RSV – a virus which causes many coughs and colds.

RSV can be dangerous for young children and elderly people, experts said.

The jab is available to people aged between 75 and 79 as well as pregnant women past the 28-week mark.

People over 65, care home residents and people with health problems can also book flu and covid-19 jabs from Monday.

Covid and flu vaccines are also being offered to frontline health and social care workers.

If you’re eligible, you can get jabs at your local pharmacy or GP practice from October 3.

The UK Health Security Agency’s Dr Mary Ramsay said: “Our ongoing surveillance shows that Covid-19 continues to cause severe illness.

“It is putting many in hospital, particularly older people and those with underlying medical conditions.

“But it also shows that the autumn vaccines are effective in helping to give added protection to those most at risk.

“Vaccines almost halve the likelihood of hospitalisation from the virus for a few months following vaccination and over the winter period.

“I urge everyone who is eligible to take up the offer of a vaccine as soon as possible once invited.

“It will help improve your immunity to Covid-19, which does wane over time.”

Health minister Karin Smyth said: “Services have been failed for too long and change cannot happen overnight.

“But we are working closely with trusts and local authorities across the country to start our preparations for the colder months.”

Smyth added: “We continue our plans to build an NHS that is fit for the future.

“But this government has been clear that we cannot continue to fix the annual winter crisis with sticking plasters.

“That’s why we are working to radically reform the NHS through the 10-year plan and build a health service that is fit for the future all year round.”

Symptoms of RSV

PEOPLE commonly show symptoms of the virus four to six days after being infected.

Signs include:

  • Runny nose
  • Decrease in appetite
  • Coughing
  • Sneezing
  • Fever
  • Wheezing

But symptoms can be much more subtle in very young babies, including irritability, decreased activity and breathing difficulties.

Most children will have had an RSV infection by their second birthday.

It can cause a condition called bronchiolitis in babies and young children.

Symptoms of bronchiolitis in very young infants include:

  1. Refusal to breastfeed or bottle-feed
  2. Breathing more quickly and noisily (wheezing)
  3. Seeming very tired, upset or inactive
  4. Signs of dehydration – lack of tears when crying, little or no urine in their nappy for six hours, and cool, dry skin

Inside ‘world’s most depressing theme park’ in N.Korea that refuses to close despite rickety rides & rusting fairground

NORTH Korea’s failed version of a Disneyland paradise has remained open despite its rickety and rusting rides sitting beyond repair.

The lacklustre Mangyongdae theme park is a picture of sadness today with hardly any genuine visitors walking through the decaying front gates.

Away from the rides a number of lacklustre stalls are also available[/caption]

A rollercoaster, giant swing, merry-go-round and even a mini bullet train feature in the park but worrying images of the desolate attractions show how little it has been cared for overtime.

The once bright and colourful rides are now turning a depressing shade of brown after years of rusting away.

Harrowing pictures show glum parents sitting with their kids on the corroding rides.

It was even slammed by tyrant leader Kim Jong Un in the early 2010s for having a dismal atmosphere and being in a run-down condition.

Staff at the park were even told they have “below-zero spirit” by the dictator, Pyongyang’s Korean Central News Agency reported.

His scathing comments promoted the site to undergo a renovation project in 2012 with very little being shown of the results of the work through North Korea’s tight media laws.

The park was first opened in 1982 and sits just 12km from the North Korean capital of Pyongyang and takes up a whopping 700,000sqm.

Despite the impressive size the activities fail to live up to expectations with hardly any returning customers.

This is also due to a number of concerning allegations against the safety at Mangyongdae.

Tourists have claimed they were left with unlocked harnesses as they set off on treacherous rides.

Others say park engineers would be on the look out for loose screws and dodgy holes as customers boarded the rides, say MailOnline.

The main attraction is an ageing looped rollercoaster that was built under the watchful eye of North Korea’s founding leader Kim Il-sung.

Outside of the decaying and death-defying rides a number of sad game stalls are littered across the complex as well.

Pictures show a young girl with a gun shooting at targets which are said to be of imperialist and US aggressors towards North Korea.

The odd attraction is also only cornered off by a wooden beam and a red sheet.

Next to her sits a makeshift basketball net and a small green ball as well as a set of rusty cans to be knocked down.

A bizarre dog sanctuary is also sat in the middle of the park with crumbling kennels and overgrown grass.

It has even been alleged by the handful of shocked journalists allowed to enter the park that crowds of locals are rounded up and shipped off to spend the day looking cheery.

Their job is to seemingly make the place look slightly livelier, according to those who have witnessed it.

It was announced last month that North Korea is set to reopen its doors to tourists for the first time after a five-year lockdown.

The secretive regime will allow in overseas visitors for the first time since the pandemic meaning the current state of the theme park may finally be revealed.

Watch bizarre moment former Chelsea star SLAPS Real Madrid kitman in face as baffled Kylian Mbappe watches on

THIS is the bizarre moment a former Chelsea star SLAPPED the face of Real Madrid’s kitman, leaving Kylian Mbappe baffled.

The jokey incident occurred ahead of Real’s crunch LaLiga clash against Espanyol on Saturday evening.

Carlo Ancelotti’s champions have endured a mixed start to the new season, winning three of their opening five games despite the addition of Mbappe in attack.

They are already four points behind Barcelona, who have made a perfect start under Hansi Flick with 17 goals in five wins.

And Real know they must beat Espanyol to keep the heat on their fierce rivals.

However, the pressure does not appear to be getting to the kings of Spain, who also won last season’s Champions League.

Ancelotti’s men took part in a training session on Friday morning knowing they must make up for their slow start to the campaign.

But former Chelsea star Antonio Rudiger was up for a laugh as he jokingly collided with Real Madrid’s kitman Manolin.

The popular member of staff looked bemused as Rudiger held on to his arm before giving him a playful slap to the face.

Manolin continued to try and drag himself away as new man Mbappe watched on.

But he could not escape Rudiger’s grip, with the German then delivering a fresh slap to Manolin’s mush.

The two men then threw their arms in the air as they traded a flurry of words.

And Rudiger ended things by jogging away to resume his training session.

The Germany international is in his third season with Real after a 2022 free transfer from Chelsea.

He has already clocked up 108 games for Los Blancos while becoming a fan favourite thanks to his energetic personality.

And Rudiger has won seven trophies at the Bernabeu, including the Spanish Cup and last term’s Double.

Kylian Mbappe ‘snaps up £15m mansion in Beckham’s old neighbourhood’ next door to Real Madrid legend and Hollywood star

By Gerard Couzens

KYLIAN MBAPPE has reportedly splashed out more than £15million on a mansion in Madrid.

The French superstar, whose drawn-out transfer to Real Madrid has finally being confirmed, is said to have finalised the purchase late last month.

Respected Spanish daily La Razon says the house he has bought is in the exclusive Madrid suburb of La Moraleja, where David Beckham spent most of his time living when he was in the Spanish capital.

And it says his neighbours will include former Real Madrid legend Sergio Ramos and his stunning model wife Pilar Rubio as well as Hollywood star Richard Gere and his Spanish publicist wife Alejandra Silva.

La Razon said Mbappe had considered the gated estate of La Finca where Jude Bellingham lives and Cristiano Ronaldo still owns property as an option.

But it reported the 25-year-old, who threw an extravagant party for 250 guests at a stylish Italian restaurant a short walk from the Eiffel Tower, ended up opting for La Moraleja a 15-minute drive from Real Madrid’s Valdebebas training complex because it was “more comfortable.”
