Black Myth Wukong might have an exclusivity deal with PlayStation meaning devs lied to fans

BLACK Myth: Wukong has been a huge success, selling 10million copies in the first three days, something virtually unheard of when it comes to debut games.

It is currently the biggest game in the world with 2.5million concurrent players on Steam at its peak.

What is even more surprising about Black Myth: Wukong’s sales, is that it is currently only available on two platforms: PC and PS5.

Developer GameScience claims that an Xbox version for Xbox Series X|S is in development, but it is still being optimised for the consoles.

An FAQ on the game’s page reads: “We are currently optimising the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms.

“We apologise for the delay and aim to minimise the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”

Xbox demands feature parity between its powerful Series X and budget Series S consoles, which has previously caused delays for other games.

Most notably 2023’s Game of the Year, Baldur’s Gate 3, was delayed on Xbox due to issues implementing split screen co-op play.

However, a new report from IGN claims that GameScience has signed a secret exclusivity deal with Sony so that Black Myth: Wukong is a timed-exclusive on PlayStation.

IGN claims that this information was told to them via anonymous sources and so it is impossible to verify.

However, Xbox previously made a statement about the delay of Black Myth: Wukong that mentions exclusivity deals long before this report came to light.

In June Microsoft commented: “We’re excited for the launch of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox Series X|S and are working with GameScience to bring the game to our platforms.

“We can’t comment on the deals made by our partners with other platform holders, but we remain focused on making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the centre of that.”

As Microsoft made these comments two months before the report, it could be that there was an exclusivity deal already in place at this time.

Black Myth: Wukong is out now for PS5 and PC, and while it is still slated to launch on Xbox Series X|S, a release date for this version has not been given.
