BRITS can save up to £152 on a dreamy winter getaway to a sun-soaked exotic island, as pricey visas are set to be scrapped.

Brits looking for a winter sun getaway have some sizzling news – one of the world’s most exotic islands is changing its laws – making it a lot cheaper for families.

From October 1, Sri Lanka will offer visa-free access for single visits of up to 30 days.

The new initiative will run for six months and applies to 35 countries, giving sun-seekers the chance to explore this paradise without the extra cost or hassle.

The move comes as the island nation tries to revive its tourism industry after the triple whammy of political upheaval, the pandemic, and the devastating Easter terror attacks in 2019.

But there’s a catch – Ireland is not on the list of exempt countries.

Sam Clark, head honcho of Sri Lanka specialist Experience Travel Group, said the decision was “great news” for the country.

He told TTG: “The new visa-free regime is a game-changer for Sri Lanka’s future.

“It gives travellers from around the world a golden chance to see everything the country has to offer and is a huge opportunity for British ministers to push for a permanent visa-free arrangement.”

Sam reckons the UK government should be pulling out all the stops to help Brits visit.

The UK is a big deal for Sri Lanka’s tourism scene – it’s their third-largest source market, with 61,000 Brits soaking up the sun there last year.

The visa-free move is a welcome boost after the tourism industry successfully lobbied the Foreign Office to change its travel advice earlier this year.

Since 2018, UK officials had warned travellers against visiting due to political unrest, saying “food, medicine, and medical services” might be limited.

Sam noted this had a “profound impact on tourism,” with bookings still lagging behind 2018 levels.

But after a star-studded campaign featuring celebs, politicians, and business leaders, the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) finally softened its stance in April.

Now, tour operators are buzzing with excitement.

They expect that ditching the visa fees will make Sri Lanka an even hotter destination.

The ETG also pointed out that when Vietnam introduced a similar scheme, visitor numbers jumped by a whopping third in just two weeks.

So, if you’re dreaming of a winter escape filled with palm-fringed beaches, stunning wildlife, and mouth-watering food, Sri Lanka might just be the ticket.

And now it won’t cost you an extra penny in visa fees.

Kaleb then brought the conversation back onto the beer as he asked Jeremy if anyone could get their hand on the limited edition bottle.

“No,” he abruptly replied. “You’ve got to be a Hawkstonian to have this. It is just for Hawkstonians.

Holding up his foam-filled pint glass up to the camera, Jeremy added: “And I poured it incredibly badly.”

This comes after Kaleb issued several ‘worrying’ updates about conditions on the Oxfordshire landmark throughout the summer.

AN UNDERRATED English city is set to open up a brand new floating hotel in 2025.

Incredible plans have finally been revealed showing how the sprawling resort complex will have a swanky waterside bar and a restaurant along with a whopping 180 stylish rooms.

Stunning concept images show the Good Hotel sat floating on the North Bay in the Salford Quays.

Designers, Ninetynine, are aiming to make the unique hotel a new hub for tourists with it being labelled as Salford’s next landmark already.

The giant vessel would be built offsite in a Dutch shipyard before being sailed over to the northern city.

It will be made up of three floors and is being specially designed to be able to withstand floods and extreme rainfall.

Future guests will also be able to cycle around the boat, according to the plans.

It is set to sit in the North Bay just next to the Lowry Theatre.

The location has already seen an expansive range of new shops and businesses open up in recent years as part of the Salford Quays project.

The bay is just a two-minute walk from the MediaCityUK tram stop making it an ideal location for travellers and locals.

The clever minds behind the plans are The Good Hospitality Group who already have experience in the floating hotel sector.

They run other hotels in London’s Royal Docks, Antigua and Guatemala City.

Their aim is to always create more than just a luxury hotel with them also becoming a “centre for connection, learning, and community engagement”.

Marten Dresen, founder of The Good Hospitality Group, said: “We are hugely excited to bring our floating Good Hotel concept to Salford Quays: a thriving tourist and commercial destination.

“We will collaborate with local partners and establish a successful training programme, mirroring the success we have experienced in London where hundreds of trainees have so far completed our Good Training Programme.

“As we prepare to submit our plans, we’re committed to providing meaningful opportunities for local residents, helping them secure long-term employment and contributing positively to the community.”

A spokesperson also said they will work closely with Salford City Council on the plans.

A number of jobs will also be available with the company hosting several training programmes to benefit the local community.

The Good Training Programme already offers hospitality training and career opportunities to local people affected by unemployment.

They have launched a consultation about the hotel before they hope to be granted planning permission later this year.

Planning applications to Salford council are yet to be submitted until after they hear from the locals.

If everything is approved, the floating hotel is expected to first dock in the autumn of 2025.

The developers then hope it will ready to open to the public at the end of next year or at the start of 2026.

Locals have already voiced their opinions on the plans with many hailing the idea as a great one.

One local said: “This will be amazing for Manchester. Regeneration boost is needed for the city and for Salford.”

As another praised the location as it is close to major sporting venues such as Old Trafford football and cricket grounds.

Others felt the initial designs were “bland” for such a unique concept.

Some also felt the introduction of a huge hotel may impact the views along the bay.

Following the closure of Manchester Docks in the 1980s, Salford Quays underwent a huge revamp.

Over the next two decades, the canal network was transformed into a maze of shops, restaurants and cultural attraction.

It comes as travel guide creator Peter Naldrett told The Sun how Salford is a fast-emerging travel hotspot in the UK.

Peter declared Salford as one of the most underrated places in the whole of the country after he went on a journey across all 76 cities trying to find the best one.

He told Sun Travel “Despite being part of Greater Manchester, Salford is actually a city in its own right – with its own identity and some of the best urban attractions in the country.

“There’s a lot going on there, especially with MediaCity, where the BBC and ITV are stationed, which means there are plenty of opportunities to see shows that are being recorded.

“Always when I go to Salford, I’m pleasantly surprised about how nice it is on Salford Quays and how many people like to go there to hang out at lunchtime.”

The Toon stalwart added: “I asked Joleon after the Euros what Lee brings. He said his leadership qualities are brilliant but the players just love him and want to win for him.

“It’s about man-management as much as systems or tactical things.
“Lee seems a really perfect fit for England and I don’t say that lightly.

“I know he’s been part of the system and you only have to look at Spain with regards their manager.

“He knows the players inside out because he’s been there a longer number of years with the FA.”

Given believes Carsley will give attacking players “more freedom” than predecessor Southgate, which will be “refreshing” to many fans.

He is also backing Tino Livramento to justify his maiden call-up and believes Magpies team-mate Nick Pope will give Carsley something to consider in goal.

Given added: “Livramento is ready all right. He is the real deal.

“The easiest choice in goal would be to stick with Jordan Pickford.

“But Nick Pope is good enough to play at international level.”

Meanwhile, Given has urged Hallgrimsson to do what England did with Rice and Grealish and persuade Liam Delap to switch  allegiances to Ireland.

The Ipswich striker, who has five England Under-21 caps, is the son of Rory Delap, who played with Given for the Republic.

Given said: “If I was the Ireland  manager, I would be going, ‘Liam, you could play for us every game’.

“I would leave no stone unturned to get players on board.”
