iPhone fans ‘work out’ what products are set to be discontinued after spotting stock clue ahead of Apple event in days

APPLE is anticipated to axe five gadgets in its upcoming launch of the iPhone 16, as stock runs low at retailers.

The company will unveil the iPhone 16 on September 9, and is forecast to launch two other products alongside.

As reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, a dwindling inventory is often a precursor to what’s to come.

Though he adds that that’s not always the case.

Judging by Apple’s inventory, the company is running out of the FineWoven iPhone cases and Apple Watch wrist bands that failed to win the heart of fans.

The Silicon Valley giant had decided to phase out traditional leather products in it’s iPhone 15 launch to reduce methane emissions.

It introduced a “luxurious and durable microtwill” alternative, called FineWoven, instead.

But customers and several reviews branded the material “terrible” for the price, and that it scratches very easily.

Current stock levels could be a sign that the fabric option is about to be phased out, and perhaps replaced with a hardier material.

And that’s not all.

Stock of the Apple Watch 9 and AirPods 3 are also being sapped and not replenished.

Apple is reportedly introducing the Apple Watch Series 10 and new AirPods during the September 9 event, which would explain the low inventory.

According to a separate report from Bloomberg, Apple will discontinue AirPods 2 and AirPods 3 this year to replace them with two AirPods 4 variants.

The iPhone SE model also appears to be running low on the ground, likewise all the iPhone models that are soon to be declared “obsolete”.

In February last year, Ming-Chi Kuo, an analyst at TF International Securities, claimed that Apple had restarted the iPhone SE 4 project as an economic downturn was squashing the consumer desire the buy new electronics.

It is typically the cheapest device in each series.

But reports have suggested that the iPhone SE 4 will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 17 next year.

Another product that’s flying off the shelves is the iPad mini.

While rumours suggest a new model is on the way, it’s not clear whether it will be revealed this month or later in the year.

iPhone tricks to try today

Here are some of the best...

  • Typing cursor – When typing, hold down the space bar to turn your keyboard into a trackpad, letting you move around words and sentences more easily
  • Close all Safari tabs – To do this in one go, simply hold the overlapped squares in the bottom right-hand corner, and press close all tabs
  • Delete lots of photos quickly – Hold down on a photo and then drag your finger diagonally in Photos to select lots of images at once, then hit delete
  • Convert currency quickly – Swipe down from the top of your Home screen, then tap in the bar and type a currency (like €200) and it will automatically covert to your local currency
  • Check if you’re due a battery upgrade – Batteries inside smartphones degrade over time. Just go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health, and check out the Maximum Capacity reading. Generally a battery is considered worn when you’re down to 80% capacity. If you’re below, you can buy a battery swap from Apple
  • Move apps around faster – Hold an app until it starts wiggling, then (while still holding) tap other apps, causing them to stack so you can move them around easier

Apple Watch 10 Rumours

The Apple Watch 10 is forecast to come with some significant upgrades.

It’s alleged to be thinner than its predecessors, and boast larger screen sizes, according to Ming-Chi.

Apple has reportedly been mulling a magnetic attachment for the wrist bands, too.

This would remove the band cutouts and provide more space for other internal components – which in turn could help slim the gadget.

There’s also hope for an updated OLED display that would bring a nice boost to the battery life.

In terms of new health features, blood pressure monitoring could be included, as well as sleep apnea detection.

Although there is some question in whether the device will be unveiled alongside the iPhone 16, or hit shelves later in the year.

AirPods 4

There were no major changes to the AirPods lineup in 2023, so Apple is expected to be introducing its fourth iteration of the earphones.

The higher-end AirPods 4 are expected to offer noise cancellation, while the lower-end model will not.

Apple has typically released new AirPods around the same time as new iPhones in September.

Like the Apple Watch 10, Bloomberg suggested the new models may be released later in 2024.

iPhone SE 4

Onlookers have their eyes pinned to September 2025 for the new iPhone SE 4, after hopes of a release this year were squashed by rumours.

The device is generally aimed at consumers who don’t care so much about glitzy features, but want a high-powered device that actually fits in their pocket.

Apple introduced an iPhone SE 3 into its iPhone 14 line up in 2022.

The iPhone SE 3 ranged between $429/£449 and $579/£609. While the iPhone SE 2 ranged from $399/£419 and $549/£569.

This is far more affordable than the iPhone 14 Pro, which retailed at £1,099.

It always pays to compare prices before reaching for your wallet so you know you’re getting the best deal.

You can compare prices on platforms like Google Shopping.

To become a savvy shopper, consider joining Facebook groups like Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK, Latest Deals, and Reduce Your Supermarket Spend for insider tips and hot offers.

Following your favourite shops on social media and signing up for newsletters can also keep you in the loop on the latest deals.

Websites like Hotukdeals are excellent for finding offers spotted by other bargain hunters, and using barcode scanners in stores can reveal if items are cheaper than their listed prices.

To maximize your savings, always browse multiple retailers, compare prices, and watch for clearance sales.

Little tricks such as using discount codes and cash-back apps can also help you snag the best bargains.

What can I get with Tesco Clubcard?

TESCO'S Clubcard scheme allows shoppers to earn points as they shop.

These points can then be turned into vouchers for money off food at the supermarket, or discounts at other places like restaurants and days out.

Each time you spend £1 in-store and online, you get one point when you scan your Clubcard.

Drivers using the loyalty card get one point for every two litres spent on fuel.

One point equals 1p, so 150 points gets you a £1.50 money-off voucher, for example.

You can double their worth when you swap them for discounts with “reward partners”.

For example, £12 worth of vouchers can be swapped for a £24 three-month subscription to Disney+.

Or you can swap 50p worth of points for £1 to spend at Hungry Horse pubs.

Where you can spend them changes regularly, and you can check on the Tesco website what’s available now.

Tesco shoppers can also get Clubcard prices when they have the loyalty card.

The discounted items change regularly and without a Clubcard you’ll pay a higher price.

These Clubcard prices are usually labelled on shelves, along with the non-member price.

But it’s worth noting that just because it’s discounted doesn’t necessarily make it the cheapest around, and you should compare prices to find the best deal.

You can sign up to get a Tesco Clubcard in store or online via the Tesco website.

Joey Chestnut vs Takeru Kobayashi explained: What are the rules, how can I watch the big hot dog-eating contest?

NO hot dog is safe later on today as Joey Chestnut and Takeru Kobayashi compete against each other in a wiener-eating contest.

The renowned 16-time world champion Chestnut goes up against six-time champ Kobayashi in a battle which is being dubbed ‘Unfinished Beef’.

AP
Joey Chestnut is a 16-time world hot dog-eating champion[/caption]

The two rivals have been at each other’s throats for years and have competed on the biggest stages.

But it doesn’t get much bigger than this for either man.

Forget dog eats dog; it’s now man eats dog as Chestnut looks to retain his crown at the GOAT glizzy guzzler.

Kobayashi knows his way around a frankfurter, though, and will give it everything he has to dethrone his nemesis.

How to watch Chestnut vs Kobayashi

  • Chestnut’s clash with Kobayashi is available to watch on Netflix.
  • There are no extra costs of pay-per-view fees to watch.
  • If you’re a Netflix subscriber, you can watch it all from the app, which you can download onto your phone, tablet or Smart TV.
  • The action begins at 3pm ET/8pm BST.

What are the rules?

There are seven simple rules:

  • 10 minutes to eat as many hot dogs and buns as possible.
  • No dunking or pouring water on hot dogs and buns.
  • No separation of hot dogs and buns.
  • Penalties may be issues for rule breaks and regurgitation.
  • 30 seconds to finish what’s left in their mouth at the end of 10 minutes.
  • Excess crumbs to be weighed and deducted from scores if necessary.
  • Tiebreaker: three minutes overtime. If a second overtime is necessary, the winner will be the first to finish five hot dogs and buns.

Undercard

  • Matt Stonie vs former Olympians Ryan Murphy, Ryan Lochte and Max Irving (Chicken wing-eating contest)
  • Leah Shutkever – watermelon eating world record attempt (most consumed in three minutes)

What has been said?

Chestnut has said: “Through all of my years in competitive eating, Kobayashi stands out as my fiercest rival.

“Competing against him pushed me to be so much better.

“I know that fans have waited a long time for another chapter of our rivalry and I can’t wait for our massive showdown live on Netflix! It’s time to give the people what they want!”

The 41-year-old childminder wrote: “Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f****** hotels full of the b******* for all I care…

“If that makes me racist, so be it.”

She is now facing up to 18 months in jail after pleading guilty to stirring up racial hatred.

Connolly is married to Raymond Connolly, who is Conservative vice chair of the committee on adult social care at West Northamptonshire Council.

He previously defended his wife, telling the BBC she made one “stupid, spur of the moment tweet out of frustration and quickly deleted it”.

He continued: “She’s a good person and she’s not racist.

“She’s got Somalian and Bangladeshi kids she looks after and she loves them like they’re her own.”

‘Best horse in the world’ makes more than £20million without running a race in record-breaking second career

A SUPERSTAR racehorse dubbed ‘the best in the world’ has made more than £20million for his owners – despite not running a single race.

Equinox swept all before him in Japan and was a record-breaker on the track.

Equinox was a monster on the track but it is at stud where the real money can be made[/caption]

The equine equivalent of a jet engine, he won eight of his ten career races – including six in a row to finish his career – and won more than £14m.

A brilliant six-time Group 1 champion, he was absolutely adored in Japan and was even given his own retirement ceremony attended by thousands of fans.

His jockey Christophe Lemaire called him ‘the best horse in the world’ and said: “He really is perfect.”

He was also expected to be in-demand in his second career as a stallion.

And the bar was set high when he was introduced at £105,000 a cover – a record for a first-season stallion in Japan.

It wasn’t long before rival owners desperate for a star of their own booked him out.

And it has since been revealed that Equinox has been a busy boy in his new job at Shadai Stallion Farm, covering 203 mares in his first season at stud.

Costing £105,000 a pop, that’s a mighty £21.3m in earnings for his owners Silk Racing Co Ltd.

Or to put it another way, over £7m more than he won racing.

It doesn’t take a genius to see that, in Flat racing, the real big money can be made at stud.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien and all-conquering owners Coolmore will be hoping for similar from their Derby winner City Of Troy – and his sire Justify.

The latter, a Triple Crown-winning superstar in the States, stands for around £150,000 at Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

A specialist on dirt, his star son City Of Troy could easily smash that figure should he win the Breeders’ Cup Classic in November.

No horse has ever won the Derby and Classic, giving City Of Troy the potential to be a massive success at stud.

Still, those figures don’t touch the rumoured £600,000 Galileo – the sire of sires – charged at stud.

Worth well into the hundreds of millions, and possibly even a billion quid, at the time of his death in July 2021, Galileo changed the game for stallions.

Some of the best to follow in his hoof prints since then include the likes of Frankel, the unbeaten 14-from-14 superstar, and Godolphin’s Dubawi.

What does McDonald’s Monopoly ‘Double peel’ mean?

MCDONALD’S Monopoly is making an epic comeback in days with up to £100,000 free cash up for grabs.

The fast food chain has confirmed the popular game will be returning from September 4.

a monopoly board with a dodge car on it
Getty
Once again you have double the chance of winning with the “Double peel”[/caption]

And customers will once again have the chance to double their chances of gaining properties and prizes through “Double Peel”.

Here’s everything you need to know about the feature.

What does ‘Double peel’ mean?

“Double peel” allows you to peel another sticker every time you earn yourself a property in the McDonald’s Monopoly game.

Once you’ve purchased an item and peeled a sticker, you need to head to the McDonald’s app and bank a property by scanning the sticker.

This will provide you with an extra virtual sticker – hence the “double peel”.

Without having to buy any extra food or drink at McDonald’s you can bank another free property or earn yourself an instant win.

How to play McDonald’s Monopoly

Anyone can join in the McDonald’s Monopoly fun and hopefully bag one of the amazing prizes available.

To win, you must collect a set of properties, for example, three pink properties, just like the board game.

If you’re lucky, you might earn yourself an Instant Win.

Get yourself on the McDonald’s app and there you can find the digital board with all the properties listed.

You must be over the age of 18 to play and the app is available on both iOS and Android.

Stickers are placed on various McDonald’s food items – so make sure you order the right item to be in with a chance of winning.

Once you find a sticker, scan the code, and that way you can bank the property on your phone.

Once you collect a whole set, you win a prize.

McDonald’s recommends that you keep the stickers collected in a safe place, just in case they need any further clarification from you when giving you your prize.

What are the McDonald’s Monopoly prizes?

There are various prizes up for grabs through McDonald’s Monopoly from Wednesday.

There are a number of Collect to Win prizes on offer, which you can get with multiple stickers.

You can collect property sets with them that will put you in line for some big prizes:

  • £100k cash
  • Mini electric car

  • Merlin annual pass
  • JBL Audio Bundle
  • Hisense TV + Soundbar from Currys
  • £100 Virgin Experience Day
  • Medium Extra Value Meal
  • £200 train credit with TrainPal

Who is Brad Pitt’s girlfriend Ines de Ramon?

SINCE his separation from Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt has been linked with various women, from MIT professor Neri Oxman to Emily Ratajkowski.

But who is Pitt’s current girlfriend, who stepped out alongside the star at the Venice Film Festival?

Brad Pitt and Ines de Ramon were pictured at the 2024 Venice Film Festival[/caption]

Who is Brad Pitt’s girlfriend Ines de Ramon?

Ines de Ramon, 34, is originally from New Jersey but moved to Cologny, Switzerland when her dad landed a new job in finance.

She later graduated from the University of Geneva with a degree in business administration.

The same source said Pitt was devastated not to have a relationship with his children but that de Ramon had been a “real source of comfort,” with the pair’s respective divorces reportedly bringing them “closer together.”
