I lost £3,000 in seconds after making vital mistake INSIDE a bank… I should have seen the signs but had no idea

A MAN who lost £3,000 in seconds after making vital mistake inside a bank said he should have seen the signs coming but had no idea.

The 24-year-old, who wishes to remain anonymous, was the victim of a cunning “distraction theft” inside his local Natwest branch in Warrington, Cheshire.

The devastated hotel worker had withdrawn £3,180, from the Nationwide building society on Sankey Street at around 2:30pm back in June.

Wanting to transfer it between accounts, he took it by hand to the branch of Natwest a few hundred yards away on the opposite side of the street.

Due to long lines, he opted to use one of the pay-in ATMs inside the branch, placing his transparent wallet with the cash, keys, and wallet on the machine.

However, as he was depositing the coins, a woman entered the branch appearing “hysterical”, reports the Manchester Evening News.

The man recalled: “She was really stressed, really upset. I know now it was an act but it was really convincing.”

The victim recounted that after initially approaching him and speaking in Spanish, the woman then moved to the counters where staff also expressed confusion at her words.

In an attempt to assist, he told the outlet that he offered his phone for translation purposes.

As she spoke into it, the device translated her words as “the ATM was not a successor”.

Simultaneously, a man, now suspected to be in cahoots with the woman, was seen at the counter ‘flaunting a £50 note’.

Unseen by the victim, this man is believed to have stealthily approached the machine while the victim was distracted, swiped the money, and left around 3pm.

The victim only realised the theft when, a minute or two later, after the woman had calmed down and departed, he turned to find his money missing, though his key and wallet remained.

He promptly alerted the bank staff and contacted the police but the damage was already done.

The victim said: “I realise now it was an error, but that’s the way I’ve always done things, I’ve always done them in person, it didn’t feel strange at all.

“They weren’t your average bank robbers, they just look like normal people.

“So there was no reason to suspect anything. It’s such an odd thing to happen on a Wednesday afternoon. But the effects have just been awful.

“I nearly fainted when I realised,” he went on. “I’m the sort of person who has always saved up, to lose that amount of money in one go is just surreal, I can’t believe it.”

The victim stated that the bank staff who reviewed the CCTV footage confirmed the man had taken the money while he was preoccupied.

He further mentioned that the staff now suspect that the man and woman may have been communicating in a language other than Spanish, which no one else in the branch understood at the time.

The victim added that the police believe the group, potentially larger than just the pair seen in the branch, might have been observing him while he was in the Nationwide across the street.

However, both Nationwide and Natwest have so far refused to reimburse him.

The victim believes that given it happened inside their branch, Natwest in particular have a moral obligation to do so.

“The stigma against cash is ridiculous,” the man added. “If it was my card that had been taken, they’d give me everything back.

“I was inside their premises and was paying it into their account. I’ve been a customer of theirs for many, many years.”

Natwest said it cannot protect or be responsible for cash brought in by a customer until it is “fully deposited” with them.

This can be if it is being handed over a till position or secured and properly deposited by a customer into a cash deposit machine.

A Natwest spokesperson told the M.E.N: “We’re sorry for the distressing experience (the customer) has been through and will support the police with their enquiries.”

A spokesperson for Cheshire Police said: “At around 3pm on Wednesday 19 June police were made aware of reports of a distraction theft at a bank on Sankey Street, Warrington.

How to avoid falling victim to theft

Maintain awareness of your surroundings

Don’t walk around holding out your phone, or things where they’re easily visible or easy to get at.

Keep things you might need access to in front pockets.

Pockets with zippers, etc. make it that much harder for them to access, or want to.

Keep your valuables locked away

Keeping your bags locked and zipped up when you don’t need them can always help.

It might make you accessing your things more of a pain, but the same will be true for them, and it’s also a visual sign to them that you might be more trouble than its worth to them when they can go after the next person that isn’t doing that.

If you need to get something out of your pockets, or even your money belt, you don’t have to do it right out in the middle of everything where everyone can see.

If people get too close, or touchy, move away from them if you can

Protect passwords, PINs, and usernames

Never keep your PIN with your debit card. If someone steals your debit card and your PIN is written right on the card, that person has easy access to your accounts.

Do not keep passwords saved on your computer or phone, but in a separate, secure location.

Also, remember to change your passwords on a regular basis to protect yourself.

MAN UTD TRANSFER NEWS LIVE: All the latest deals and rumours from Old Trafford

And Sky Sports claim that United used the talks to enquire about the possibility of signing Chukwuemeka in a separate deal.

Chelsea are desperate to get Sancho through the door before tonight’s transfer deadline, with Fabrizio Romano suggesting that have made an official bid.

The terms would see Sancho move on loan with an option to buy at the end of the season.

United are prepared to take a £38million hit on the winger, who they signed for £73m from Dortmund in 2021.

Chelsea are trying to offload Raheem Sterling, Trevoh Chalobah, Ben Chilwell and Armando Broja.

Boss Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the bomb squad have no place at the club.

He said: “The ones who are not involved don’t get minutes if they stay.

“It’s not just Raheem. It’s all the players who  are training apart.”

Chukwuemeka is not on the chopping block at Stamford Bridge as the clubs have high hopes for his future.

Chelsea are also in the market for a striker.

Ivan Toney and Victor Osimhen look destined for the Saudi Pro League in a blow to Maresca.

Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has emerged as a potential alternative.

Another player on Chelsea’s radar is Brighton’s Evan Ferguson.

Man Utd ratings vs Brighton: Diallo shines again by Maguire costs Red Devils again

MANCHESTER UNITED suffered more misery on the seaside as they lost again at the Amex.

It was almost all so different for the Red Devils as, at 1-1, fans celebrated what they thought was a winner – only for the goal to be ruled out in a bonkers offside call.

And Joao Pedro pounced to snatch the three points for Brighton deep into added time.

Here’s how SunSport’s Lloyd Canfield rated United’s stars…

ANDRE ONANA – 4/10

Not convincing from a goalkeeper we know can perform with the best in this league.

NOUSSAIR MAZRAOUI – 6

Has been a good upgrade on Wan-Bissaka judging by his opening performances in a United shirt.

HARRY MAGUIRE – 4

Was caught ball watching for Danny Welbeck’s opener, and was rendered useless after letting it run past him twice.

Improved in the second half with some crucial blocks and was decent in terms of building from the back, but his error may have cost his team three points.

LISANDRO MARTINEZ – 5

Not a particularly noticeable performance from ‘The Butcher’ in a positive or negative sense.

Suppose it was a solid showing but was also caught ball watching for the opening goal.

DIOGO DALOT – 7

Was unlucky not to have an assist in the first half, but played well and put the team on his back at times.

Made a crucial goal line block early on in the second half to deny Brighton a two-goal lead and played some good crosses throughout.

CASEMIRO – 6

Stepped into tackles well when required and is having something of a resurgence at the start of this season – doesn’t look as off the pace as he did last campaign.

His final ball was disappointing at times, but overall a solid showing.

KOBBIE MAINOO – 7

Composure personified, Kobbie played like a midfielder well beyond his years.

Was always on hand to break up play, a la N’Golo Kante, but showed a calmness and ability on the half-turn which really puts him up there with the best in the league – a great performance let down by that of his teammates.

MASON MOUNT – 5

Didn’t play badly in the first half, but also added nothing really going forward for this Man Utd team.

Hooked at half-time for the more threatening Joshua Zirkzee.

MARCUS RASHFORD – 6

Had a goal ruled out in the first half after he had persisted brilliantly to head home.

A little unlucky but it was still far from the finest Marcus Rashford performance we have seen, he looked a little low on confidence before being hooked for the more confident Garnacho.

AMAD DIALLO – 8

Had a great chance to open the scoring early on in the game as he arrived at the back post, but it wasn’t quite at the right height for him.

The young winger clearly has bundles of ability, and bagged the equaliser with a fine cut inside and finish with his left foot.

Worth a note that after losing his mother it takes a hell of a man to even be out on that pitch at 22-years-old. Well played Amad, we are with you.

BRUNO FERNANDES – 7

Cut a frustrated figure up front for Man Utd in the first half before thinking he’d bagged an assist when Alejandro Garnacho tapped home, only for it to be ruled out by VAR.

Just wasn’t his day today, but still created chances for his team and looked the most likely source of a winner for the Red Devils.

SUBS:

JOSHUA ZIRKZEE (MASON MOUNT, 45) – 4

His only real action of note in the game was denying his team the winning goal.

Alejandro Garnacho had done the hard work and was about to give Man Utd the lead, only for Zirkzee to slide in and see it ruled out for offside.

His mistake did display an eagerness to score, but it was an error which cost his side nonetheless.

ALEJANDRO GARNACHO (MARCUS RASHFORD, 65) – 6

Did his job well in replacing Marcus Rashford and adding the end product which was needed by Erik ten Hag, but was robbed of a goal by his teammate as aforementioned.

Looks a danger whenever he plays on that left hand side, but after the goal that never was he was well defended for the remaining minutes.

SCOTT MCTOMINAY (BRUNO FERNANDES, 79) – 5

Bought on as a target man once again to try and get the winner for United, he wasn’t really provided with many opportunities in just over 10 minutes to really do that.

MATTHIJS DE LIGT (HARRY MAGUIRE, 79) – 5

Wasn’t really given enough of a chance to show what he is all about, but it’s minutes in the tank for the new man and he did what was asked of him after coming off the bench.

ANTONY (AMAD DIALLO, 90) – 5

In fairness to him, made a good run as soon as he entered the pitch and crossed well for Scott McTominay.

However, he wasn’t given enough time to make any significant impact.

Take this quiz to find out what how many iconic cities you can name

IT’S showtime! Take this quiz to reveal just how much you know about the world’s greatest entertainment hotspots.

If you know where Broadway can be found, what place is nicknamed ‘Sin City’, or where Moulin Rouge is located you could be worthy of a standing ovation.

an advertisement for a quiz that says see if you can correctly identify the top 10 entertainment cities from across the world

Now is your time to shine.

The quiz was created by OLBG after a poll of 2,000 adults saw Las Vegas voted the most popular entertainment hotspot.

With New York and London coming second and third respectively.

Iconic landmarks (46 per cent), historical sites (40 per cent) and live shows (37 per cent) are what those polled look for in an entertainment hotspot.

A spokesperson for OLBG, which commissioned the research, said: “We all love to be entertained, and going on holiday is no different.

“As a travel trend, people are much less likely to be satisfied with a week on the beach now, looking for more out-there experience.

“This is partly driven by the desire for hot social media content, but it’s also about maximising the difference between your day-to-day life and your getaway.”

The study found one in four adults have been to Las Vegas, while 41 per cent of those who haven’t would like to.

Two-thirds believe visiting a casino in ‘Sin City’ would be more interesting and entertaining than going to one in the UK.

Other things those polled believe make a destination truly memorable include waterfronts and beaches (36 per cent).

Around three in 10 (31 per cent) believe a strong tradition of music and festivals helps, while 26 per cent opted for amusement parks.

It also emerged 21 per cent of respondents plan to go on a trip purely for the entertainment in the next 12 months.

And 42 per cent have travelled somewhere specifically to attend a particular event like a festival or a sports event, in the past.

In positive news for the travel industry, 80 per cent of Brits describe themselves as ‘easily entertained’, according to the OnePoll figures.

But six in 10 reckon it’s much easier to be entertained in an exotic country, than in the humdrum surrounds of the UK.

OLBG’s spokesperson added: “Being entertained on holiday is essential because it enhances the overall experience and ensures that travellers make the most of their time away from home.

“It transforms a simple trip into an unforgettable adventure, filled with memorable moments and activities.”

Their loyal viewers loved her banter as they flooded Jeremy’s latest post with comments[/caption]

Former actress and screenplay writer Lisa, 50, has been in a relationship with the former Top Gear host since 2017.

On Clarkson’s Farm it’s all hands on deck as she regularly mucks in to help her boyfriend out.

Once again, she was on hand by his side as he attempted to navigate his latest land dilemma.

Jeremy took to his social media to issue a new update directly from the fields of the 1,000-acre site.

As the former Grand Tour presenter noted, Range Rover jeeps are usually exclusive luxury vehicles for driving on the roads.

However, the TV personality used his for a different purpose as he drove the car onto the fields.

Jeremy captioned the photo: “We make our Range Rovers work for a living at Diddly Squat.”

But fans were more distracted by Lisa’s gesture as she proudly flipped the bird at the person behind the camera.

His loyal viewers flooded the comments section after they were left in hysterics.

“The middle finger from Lisa is the best,” exclaimed one fan.

Meanwhile, a second wrote: “The iconic Lisa,” along with a crying with laughter emoji and a red love heart.

As someone else wrote: “I spy with my little eye, a middle finger lol”

While a fourth user stated: “Naughty Lisa.”

And a fifth person added: “Lisa is a mood.”

Meet the cast of Clarkson's Farm

Clarkson's Farm began streaming in 2021 and follows Jeremy Clarkson and his team managing Diddly Squat Farm in the Cotswolds. Here's a 'who's who' of faces in the Clarkson's Farm cast.

  • Jeremy Clarkson: Presenter and journalist; also known for Top Gear, The Grand Tour and Who Wants to be a Millionaire?
  • Lisa Hogan: A former actress and Jeremy’s partner, who assists in the running of the farm shop.
  • Kaleb Cooper: A young farm worker from Chipping Norton, who forms a double act with Jeremy on-screen. He’s later promoted to farm manager in series three.
  • Gerald Cooper: Specialist in the construction and maintenance of dry stone walls and the farm’s “head of security”. Of no relation to Kaleb.
  • Charlie Ireland: Nicknamed “Cheerful Charlie”, a professional land agent who advises Jeremy on land management.

This comes after Jeremy officially opened up his new pub called The Farmer’s Dog.

Hundreds of people lined up in Oxfordshire as his boozer was revealed to the public for the first time.

But commenting on potential new clients, Jeremy thinks his former co-star James May will not visit his new pub.

Although he has a hunch that “Richard (Hammond) will”.

I live in my ’80s Volkswagen campervan and spent a year turning it into a tiny home – it even has its own ‘garden’

A YOUTUBER has shared how she transformed her 80s camper van into a cosy tiny home, featuring a small garden.

Molly Eichenberger has spent the last year and a half converting her minivan into a homely “art piece”.

In her latest video, she revealed how she had to change various components in the van from the flooring to the dashboard.

The YouTuber said: “I’ve spent the past year and a half turning this van into an art piece.

“Everything from the flooring, the seat covers, the dashboard and custom steering wheel cover.”

To transform her Volkswagen van into a home, Molly removed the original materials and replaced them using multi-coloured fabrics which feature heavily in the design.

She also fitted a psychedelic carpet on the floor and installed a colourful custom steering wheel cover, adding to the design.

In the video, Molly showed off her fairy moss garden which sits on top of her dashboard.

She decorated the van with various-sized crystals and added a string of leaves that dangle from the rear-view mirror.

The YouTuber sleeps on a mattress at the back of the campervan.

Molly installed wooden cupboards at the rear of the van, providing storage for all her clothes and essentials.

She also added a countertop, perfect for holding loose items and doubling as a mini-table.

The YouTuber installed a small cooker next to the table and a fridge for storing her food and drinks.

In the video, Molly bought various coloured fabrics which she cut and then stitched together to make new curtains.

This gave her more privacy and also improved the interior design of the campervan.

It comes after a camping expert hailed an unassuming small car as a great camping vehicle – no matter rain or shine.

YouTube star ‘Kent Survival’ took to social media to sing the praises of his Hyundai i10 for camping – a notoriously little car.

‘SIRI’

The online creator Andrew Davidson has named his vehicle ‘Siri’, and sadly says it’s time to say goodbye to the car – so thought it would be best to test its camping capabilities beforehand.

After putting an awning around the car’s boot and setting up the tent, the YouTuber tested the makeshift campervan.

He uses a car tent for hatchbacks but says even the smallest size is too big for the Hyundai.

The brand used is ‘Hasika’ and is currently on sale on Amazon for £69.99.

The YouTube video shows Andrew putting the corners of the tent to the corners of the tailgate, while also informing viewers about hooks that attach to the inside of the car.

There are also various hooks that attach underneath the car to the bumper too.

He then uses two large sticks to hold up the awning before setting up a table underneath – shielding him and the cooking equipment from the rain.

Andrew sets up a table cook his meals on and starts a fire for light and warmth.

Despite being nearly 6ft, he said: “It’s cosy. I can sit up without banging my head. Plenty of space.”

Due to the rain, Andrew said he spent most of his time in the camper bed instead of outdoors – which he said was “very comfortable.”

He said: “It reminded me a bit of being in my roof tent really, but yeah, very very spacious and happy with that.

“I was just looking at the tent and it’s actually done quite well other than it (the rain) was seeping through a bit.

“But I’ve seen others do that. I mean it didn’t come through the sides or anything.”

Andrew enjoyed his Hyundai camping experience so much that he felt sad about having to say goodbye to the car.
