My ex-Premier League team-mate turned up with a disc cutter after someone clamped his car – there were sparks everywhere

QPR captain Steve Cook revealed Jefferson Lerma once turned up to training with a disc cutter after someone clamped his car.

The Championship player also recounted a dressing room spat involving the Colombian star during their time at Bournemouth.

In an exclusive interview with SunSport for the latest episode of “What the EFL?!”, Cook, 33, answered various questions about his 16-year career.

When asked about his most “iconic training ground tale,” he recalled the time Lerma’s car was clamped, prompting him to show up to training with the disc cutter.

He said: “Jefferson Lerma at Bournemouth, he was a proper character.

“Someone actually put a clamp on his car and he’s come in with a disc cutter and sparks going off here and there and everywhere. Columbia madness.”

Cook spent 11 years with the Cherries, having joined them permanently after a loan spell during the 2011-12 season on the south coast.

During his time there, he shared that he experienced his “wildest dressing room tale.”

He continued: “The Covid season at Bournemouth we went through a spell under Jonathan Woodgate where the changing room was a bit carnage.

“Everyone wearing the worst clothes ever because they could be trusted. Clothes were being cut up.

“It was like every man for himself. Adam Smith got done on the way out to training. Egg and flour by Jefferson Lerma and Diego Rico, but heavily. Not just one egg and one packet of flour.

“And that’s where is obviously sparked the training ground war.”

Cook reminisced that his “wildest night out” with the Cherries was after Bournemouth’s 3-0 victory over Bolton in the 2015-16 season, which secured their promotion to the Premier League.

He added: “We was straight out away in Bournemouth student night. Lads on the stage singing, rapping, tracksuits. Yeah, unforgettable, really.”

After making 388 appearances the club Cook headed to Nottingham Forest in January 2022 on a two-and-a-half-year contract.

However, his time was called short as the following summer he made a move to Championship side QPR.

But such is the world we live in it’s becoming harder and harder for anyone to live their life exactly as they would want.

The problem is, of course, that the way one person wants to live their life could be completely at odds with another. That’s what makes us humans. We have similarities but we are all different.

Currently the powers that be are doing their best to stop us gambling through ridiculous affordability checks, and this week we learnt they may also try and stop you smoking.

Added to which, if you aren’t rich but you have a child and want to spend any money you do have on sending them to a good school, you will soon be paying more than ever.

That’s even though many choose to do just that rather than take exotic holidays or have a fancy car. You see, Big Brother is out there to stop you living your life to the full. And there’s not much you can do about it.

At least if you are John and Thady Gosden no-one as of yet has decided to get rid of the joy of the Sky Bet Solario Stakes, the feature Classic trial at Sandown.

The Group 3 contest has been a happy hunting ground for the Gosden team, and the stable have taken it six times, which matches the record of Sir Henry Cecil.

Among the Gosden winners are the Breeders’ Cup Classic hero Raven’s Pass (yes I know it was on artificial, not on dirt, but it’s still in the history books), the great miler and sire Kingman and Too Darn Hot, who was just that in 2018.

Today the Gosden’s send out Field Of Gold, which will make fans of the singer Sting think owner Juddmonte Farms have misspelled the name.

But while the song Fields Of Gold was inspired by the countryside near Sting’s English estate, it’s the lush grass of Esher that today’s Field Of Gold needs to enjoy.

You will understand why Gosden is delighted the Solario – first run in 1947 – remains in the calendar when I tell you Field If Gold is a son of Kingman. So hopes will be high it will be a case of father like son.

There is every chance of that, because while he was beaten under Robert Havlin on debut at Doncaster, he looked an absolute machine with this afternoon’s jockey Kieran Shoemark on board at Newmarket last time.

He stayed on well that day to see off two promising rivals and the fourth horse, Our Terms, went on to win at Ascot next time. Fifth placed Sing Us A Song was a fine third subsequently at Newbury.

Shoemark needs the Gosdens to start producing useful horses for the future. Field Of Gold might just be that live on ITV this afternoon.

Not that today’s expected eight runner field will be a pushover. In opposition are the unbeaten pair Royal Playwright and Matauri Bay, representing Andrew Balding and Ralph Beckett.

The former won well at Salisbury first time and is out of the Juddmonte International-winning mare Arabian Queen, while Matauri Bay trotted up at Leicester and cost 500,000gns.

Field Of Gold provides eternal hope for connections, and purely by chance the Charlie Appleby-trained Eternal Hope is in action Stateside tonight at Saratoga in the Grade 1 Flower Bowl.

You might remember Eternal Hope winning the Lingfield Oaks Trial before finishing seventh behind Soul Sister in the main event at Epsom. Then again, you might not!

Anyway, with the Breeders’ Cup just around the corner I keep a close eye in what’s going on in the US and it will be interesting to see how Eternal Hope gets on against War Like Goddess.

The latter was third to Appleby’s Rebel’s Romance in the 2022 Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland and was seventh to Auguste Rodin in the same event last year. In 2021 she was third to Loves Only You in the Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf.

War Like Goddess is a decent animal. But she’s seven and won’t be around forever.

For now she is living life to the full. If only we could.

I’m a nail tech and here’s the annoying habit I hate customers doing – I’ll happily put you on probation

A NAIL tech has revealed the annoying habit that she can’t stand with customers – and tips to become the favourite client.

Sami Pelling is a 34-year-old nail expert from Essex with over 10 years of experience in the industry.

Sam also lifted the lid on the annoying habits customers have[/caption]

Speaking to Fresha, the leading marketplace platform for beauty and wellness, Sami revealed the traits that can put customers firmly in her good or bad books.

Describing what creates the dream client, she explained: “Shows up on time, has realistic expectations, enjoys a bit of glitter, and likes to chat.

“It makes the whole experience more enjoyable when we can connect and share a few laughs!

“Leaving kind words or reviews after their appointment helps build my business and motivates me to continue providing great service.

“Settling bills without any fuss demonstrates their respect for my time and work, which I value greatly.

“Receiving a coffee or a small gift is a lovely surprise that brightens my day and shows they care.”

But on the flip side, flaky nail fans who cancel with very little notice or simply don’t turn up for appointments risk probation.

Sami said: “Last-minute cancellations or no-shows can seriously impact my schedule and income, as it leaves me with little time to fill the slot with another client.

“To manage this, I require a deposit to secure appointments and have a cancellation policy in place.

“If a client repeatedly cancels or fails to show up, I place them on probation, which means they must pay in full before their next appointment to ensure their commitment.”

Sami revealed that she also finds excessive phone users particularly annoying.

“While I understand the need to stay connected, excessive phone use or other distractions can interrupt the flow of the appointment and sometimes affect the curing time for the nails”, she said.

“I prefer that clients engage with the process and enjoy their dedicated time, as it helps us make the most of the session.

“After all, it’s their relaxation time, not phone time.”

She added: “When clients take too long to choose a colour and keep changing their minds [is annoying too].

“It can disrupt the flow of the appointment and impact the overall timing.”

To help clients feel more comfortable and relaxed during their appointments, Sami suggests: “Clients should come prepared with any inspirational pictures or ideas they have in mind.

“It’s also helpful if they’re clear about their preferences and communicate any concerns beforehand e.g. if they have broken a nail or want lots of nail art, it’s always best to let us know beforehand so we can account for the fact it may require extra time.”

Biggest beauty mistakes

Fabulous' Beauty Editor Tara Ledden has shared the do's and don'ts when it comes to beauty.

“No matter how much time and money you spend on your beauty routine, if you’re not getting the basics right, the rest is wasted.

“There aren’t many non-negotiables, but these are the biggest beauty mistakes sabotaging your regime.”

  • Not wearing SPF: Sun-damage is the main cause of premature skin ageing, so if you want to keep your skin looking plump and glowing, sun cream is vital.
  • Using expired products: Best case, they’re ineffective and don’t deliver the results they promise, worst case they cause irritation and infection. The shelf life of beauty products differ – for example, mascara is usually good for 3-6 months while lipstick can last for 9-18 months. Check the ‘POA’ symbol on the packaging (it looks like a jar and will have a number inside for how many months it’s safe once opened. If you can’t remember when you opened your product, throw it away and start again, marking the month and year with a permanent marker on the packaging.
  • Not knowing your undertones: If you’re using make-up with the wrong undertones, it’ll never look natural no matter how much you blend it! An easy trick to work out whether you have cool, warm or neutral undertones is to check the veins on your wrist – if they look blue, you have cool undertones, if they’re green, you have warm and if they’re a mix you have neutral.
  • Skipping heat protector: It might feel unnecessary, but much like sun damage on the skin, excess heat is the most common cause of hair damage. So, if you want shiny, healthy hair, or you’re trying to grow it longer, using a heat protection product is key.
  • Not washing your face before bed: it’s as simple as this, if you’re not washing your face before you go to sleep, everything that’s been on your skin during the day is sitting there for even longer, clogging your pores and drying out the surface. Any skincare applied on top isn’t going to be effective with a layer of dirt underneath, and you’re probably going to end up with dirty pillows too – yuck!

‘Don’t do it!’ people scream as influencer mum suggests ‘dangerous’ tip for flying with a baby

AN INFLUENCER is facing fierce backlash after showcasing her DIY aeroplane “hammock” for her nine-month-old baby.

Mum-of-one Natália Figueira placed her daughter Maria in the suspended blanket during a 4,000-mile flight from Brazil to Florida, US.

She created a “hammock” to suspend her baby above the floor during a nine-hour flight[/caption]

She created the “hammock” by tying a blanket between the seats in front of where she was sitting – though it’s unknown how she secured it.

The model took to TikTok to boast about the “improvisation” but was quickly slammed by disgusted social media users.

She captioned her viral video: “Pure improvisation!

“We use the blanket they give you on the plane, tie it to the tables on both sides, add the pillow, and that’s it!

“A helping hand, right?

“Maria loved it.”

In the video, little Maria can be seen sitting in the suspended blanket with a bottle in her hands.

The original video, which seems to have now been deleted, amassed over seven MILLION views, MailOnline reports.

Natália, from Brazil, likely removed it from the popular video sharing app after other parents slammed her so-called hack as “dangerous” and begged other mums and dads not to try it.

“Don’t do it!” one critic penned.

“Your baby is going to stop on the ceiling if they experience an unexpected turbulence.”

“If the plane crashes, she may end up getting hurt,” another warned.

“People, don’t do this,” a third urged.

“It’s dangerous.”

Plane etiquette

IF you're planning on going away any time soon, you'll need to pay attention to the following unwritten plane etiquette rules...

RECLINING SEAT: Podcast host and etiquette expert Nick Leighton explained that you shouldn’t recline your seat if the passenger behind you is working on their laptop.

He said: “Nobody likes their laptop snapped in half.”

Before you recline your seat, it’s best to check to see what the passenger behind you is doing.

If they are on a laptop, ask before you move your seat back.

FEET: A flight attendant told The Sun: “Your boarding card tells you a number and a letter, this will be the reserved seat that you have paid for.

“Your feet, which are attached to your body, should do their best to reside within this space and stay far away from anyone else.

“If you do insist on stretching out, please make sure your feet are covered up.”

CHAT: TV travel expert Samantha Brown explained that conversations from strangers aren’t welcome, suggesting that others shouldn’t expect a chat.

She added: “I’m not a talker. Plane time is me time.”

Following the unexpected backlash, Natália released a statement.

“We put her inside, she played a little, but we know that children don’t stay still,” she told Newsflash.

“It was when we recorded the video that was posted that she wanted to get out.”

She also insisted that she would never put her little one in danger, adding: “We know that a child won’t spend hours on a flight in peace.

“So, as not to disturb the other passengers, we bring several distractions.”

According to advice from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), it is safe for parents to have a child sit on their lap during a flight as long as they are under two-years-old.

They must still follow the seat belt rules of the airline they are travelling with.

The CAA said: “Infants under the age of two need to be secured whenever the seat belt sign is on.

“This can be achieved through the use of a seat belt loop provided by the airline to secure the infant on an adult’s lap, or by using a child restraint device, i.e. car type seat, or an alternative provided by the airline.

“Passengers travelling with small children should contact their airline to discuss the safest option and to ensure that their preferred restraint device is acceptable and appropriate for the aircraft type.”
