Ghost of Yotei’s Trailer Unveils Never Seen Before Power-Packed Mechanics: Top 5 Subtle Details You Can’t-Miss

Ghost of Yotei was officially revealed during the previous PlayStation State of Play and has earned Sony Interactive Entertainment some goodwill from the gaming community. The highly anticipated sequel is set roughly 300 years after the events of Ghost of Tsushima, starring Daisuke Tsuji as Jin Sakai, and his version of the Ghost had to rely on the tools and technology available in 1274. Atsu is fortunate to be around a much more advanced era with more options.

It is fitting for Sucker Punch Productions to introduce more items and increase the weapon variety in the latest installment to establish the timeline. These new items and gameplay mechanics could be useful when Atsu is stuck between a rock and a hard place later in her journey.

The game developers of Sucker Punch Productions saw the potential to expand the franchise beyond the story of Jin Sakai as the Ghost and develop it into a mantle that could be potentially passed down from one generation to another. Ghost of Yotei will introduce a new character named Atsu and she will be taking center stage in a different location in Japan with a different quest that one might assume is for revenge. The official teaser trailer has given the gaming community a gist of her motive which is to hunt down certain targets; however, it remains to be seen who these men are and why they are being mowed down.

The teaser trailer successfully gained the gaming community’s attention by showcasing a few new additions that the original game never had like new weapons, a potential wolf companion, dual-wielding blades, a new instrument, and a rifle. Ghost of Yotei is shaping up to be a great successor rather than a direct sequel and the best part is the fans will not have to wait long to get their hands on this game.

Fans spotted new weapons that were unavailable to Jin and could have helped him liberate his homeland from the Mongol invaders much faster. Some mechanics were carried over, like the flaming sword, which can be unlocked after completing a mythic tale in Act 3 of Ghost of Tsushima, and it seems like Ghost of Yotei will double down on these new features. Atsu can dual-wield two short-blade katanas, which are accurate to the year 1603, around the Edo Period.

Music has been an important part of Jin’s journey in the original game, and he is always carrying around a flute with new songs that can be unlocked by collecting a few singing crickets. Atsu will be carrying a different kind of instrument with strings, perhaps players can unlock new songs to play on this chordophone while hunting their prey. While the original game had no shortage of animals to distract players from continuing to the main path, it appears that Atsu will have a new wolf companion to guide her way.

Atsu can be seen holding a long list of Japanese names around her waist and her wrist in the teaser, and one might assume she uses their blood to cross off their names on her list. There is a strong likelihood that these names could be the kin of traitors or enemies from the first game, and Atsu is potentially a direct descendant of Jin Sakai with the objective to continue his legacy of exacting justice through blood and other brutal methods.

Ghost of Yotei Will Live Up to the Success of Ghost of Tsushima and Potentially Surpass It

The tone of both Ghost entries are quite different. While Jin was willing to sacrifice his honor to save his homeland, Atsu seems to be using her talents and skills in bounty work. Mount Yotei is on the edge of Japan and the voiceover from the official teaser trailer hints that this is where most people go to disappear and could have turned into the local watering hole for those with a dark past. The Ghost of Yotei fears no judgment and is determined to fully cover her list in blood.

New items and weaponry are a given in gaming; however, the game developers took their time to research which items were common and accessible during that era. Firearms were not as common during the Edo period since most ronins tended to settle their affairs with the traditional katanas, and Atsu could be carrying one for emergencies or to tag targets that were fleeing for their lives from her. Nevertheless, it is exciting to see new ranged weapons in Ghost of Yotei; the original game featured two different bows and a blow dart that fires different projectiles like poison and hallucinogens that tainted Jin’s reputation as a samurai.

Perhaps Ronins will judge Atsu for her use of a rifle in combat since it is frowned upon. These new items will allow players to be more fluid and in control during combat scenarios and perfect what the first game had. Atsu and Jin are different characters and don’t need to be the same to stand out, but some mechanics can bridge the gap, like their taste in music.

Sucker Punch Productions saw the bigger picture and wanted to pursue it in this sequel. The Ghost franchise could span across different projects and carry over certain mechanics and themes.
