Despite not getting her start in the comics, Harley Quinn has become a staple in the Batman mythos. Throughout her three-decades-long history so far, like any other character, Harley Quinn has evolved a lot, especially after parting ways with the Clown Prince of Crime, who was responsible for her foray into the realm of crime.
Her Bond with Batman has also changed a lot over the years, as despite being at each other’s throats, the two have also shared several wholesome moments together. However, Lady Gaga’s intentions about meeting Batman are anything but wholesome.
Lady Gaga is plotting a flaming welcome for Batman
With Lady Gaga set to make her dive into Gotham’s Criminal underbelly in Joker: Folie à Deux, fans are ecstatic to see what the renowned artist will bring to the table as Harley. While it’s safe to say the sequel will take a more grounded approach with the character, despite its ambitious musical setting, given the nature of Gotham, Batman is bound to show up sometime in the near future.
Although we might not see this universe’s Batman unfold onscreen, Gaga has some wicked plans for her first encounter with the Bat of Gotham. When asked about the potential cross-over, Gaga joked:
She would probably light him on fire.
Considering this is still pre-break-up Harley, that sounds completely in character for her.
It’s safe to say the caped crusader would easily survive the blazing welcome because he’s Batman!, and his suit might also be fire-resistant, as he did survive the car crash in The Batman, starring Robert Pattinson.
One Major Aspect of Harley Quinn Resonated With Lady Gaga
Apart from her sinister plans for the Bat of Gotham, Lady Gaga went at length to discuss her connection with the role of Harley Quinn. Similar to Quinn, the Blood Mary singer also goes by an alias in real life instead of her original name, Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta. Gaga explained she resonated with Quinn, who comes from a broken place and uses an alternate personality to protect herself, as it was a really bad experience during her childhood that pushed Gaga to create a new persona.
I’m sure it’s no secret why I was interested in making this movie. Having an alternate personality that protects you is so much of what ‘Joker’ is about. Harley ultimately comes out of a broken place in this movie. It is kind of the beginning of her in that way… It was when something really bad happened to me when I was a kid, and I think that that, like, made me create a persona.
Further speaking of Quinn, who is notable for her iconic makeup, Gaga shared that “makeup can be a fascinating way to express yourself”. With the sequel’s release on the horizon, fans will hope Gaga hits it out of the park.
