Fans beg Netflix to save long-running drama after it was cancelled in shock move

9-1-1: LONE Star fans are begging Netflix to save the long-running procedural drama after it was cancelled by Fox earlier this month.

The drama, which is available to stream on Disney+ for viewers in the U.K., will end with its upcoming fifth series.

However, it’s predecessor9-1-1 was saved in a shock move and fans are hoping this will happen once more[/caption]

9-1-1: Lone Star is a spin-off of 9-1-1, which ran for six series on Fox until it was cancelled but it was saved by ABC in 2023 and its eighth series is now underway.

Its shock cancellation comes as Fox moves away from scripted dramas with the final episodes of 9-1-1: Lone Star set to air weekly from yesterday (September 25) until early 2025.

However, fans are desperately hoping that series 5 will not be the show’s last.

To protest Lone Star’s axing, fans have started a petition online, which currently has over 3,000 signatures. Some fans also hope ABC will scoop up the series as it did for 9-1-1.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one fan begged: “ABC we are BEGGING you, to make up for cancelling Station19… Please save 9-1-1: Lone Star like you saved 9-1-1!!”

While another pleaded: “C’mon guys, u already saved 9-1-1 now you need to save 9-1-1: Lone Star, it’s a wonderfully great show that doesn’t need to end. You saved one, now save the other.”

However, this option has all but been ruled out by outlets like Deadline, who first reported Lone Star’s cancellation, leaving fans to direct their pleas to other streaming services like Netflix, who could provide a lifeline for the drama.

Pleading with the streamer, one fan wrote: “Netflix you saved Manifest please save 9-1-1: Lone Star!!!!!!!”

“Hey Netflix, bring on 9-1-1: Lone Star season 6,” added another.

While the fate of Lone Star currently hangs in the balance, its return may be possible, as Netflix has a history of rescuing and reviving cancelled shows like Lucifer, Manifest and You.

But for the moment, all viewers can count on is that series 5 will be a dramatic one.

After announcing the cancellation, Fox TV Network President Michael Thorn teased: “Now in our final season of the show, we’re set to give it the high-stakes send-off it deserves, complete with breathless rescues, insurmountable odds and relatable personal struggles, thanks to our incomparable, stellar cast led by Rob Lowe and Gina Torres.”

Rob stars as Captain Owen Strand, a New York firefighter who, along with his adult son, T.K. (Ronen Rubinstein), relocates to Austin to rebuild a firehouse which experienced a tragedy of their own.

Strand’s new team includes Captain Tommy Vega (Gina Torres), Judd Ryder (Jim Parrack), Marjan Marwani (Natacha Karam), Paul Strickland (Brian Michael Smith), and rookie firefighter Mateo Chavez (Julian Works). Rafael Silva and Brianna Baker also star.

In the upcoming fifth season, Captains Strand and Vega, along with the 126 team, race into action when in a multi-episodic opening storyline, a catastrophic train derailment endangers several lives including some of their own.

9-1-1: Lone Star is created and executive produced by Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Tim Minear.

Bradley Buecker, who directed the series premiere, also is an executive producer alongside Rashad Raisani, John J. Gray, Angela Bassett, Lowe, Carly Soteras and Wolfe Coleman.

During an interview with TVLine Rashad Raisani said he “knew it would be an uphill battle to get anything past Season 5 and that there was a good chance this could be it.”

“We give a beautiful send-off to each and every one of these characters, but we also leave the door open on stories, so it feels like there’s actually still more stuff to deeply explore,” Raisani added, fuelling hope that Lone Star may return one way or another.
