Chiefs started five of their brand-new signings against Gallants. It was an almost entirely new-look defense with goalkeeper Ntwari between the sticks and Inacio Miguel, Rushwin Dortley and Bradley Cross in the back four. If this unit can gel, the creative players ahead of them can only flourish in that environment. Mfundo Vilakazi misses out as he’s on U20 duty. Christian Saile could come out of the side for Ashley Du Preez in attack.

Will Sirino bring the heat?
Chiefs have constantly struggled to field a regular and reliable playmaker in their side. Yusuf Maart is more of a number eight but is often asked to occupy the number 10 position. Meanwhile, Nkosingiphile Ngcobo simply can’t stay fit for long enough periods to be a dependable option.
33-year-old left-footer Gaston Sirino is a man who knows how to win with 11 trophies to his name at Sundowns, including seven league crowns on the bounce. He’s not a long-term fix but he’s a great guy to have around as the club negotiates a transition phase. With the number 10 on his back, there’s an understandable level of expectation and pressure on the highly decorated Uruguayan.
