GARDAI have sealed off a large area on the grounds of University Hospital Limerick after a body was discovered there overnight.
There are fears that the body, which was found at the back of the hospital grounds, may have lain there for up to a month.
The body, understood to be a man aged in his 40s, was reportedly discovered by a member of staff at the hospital.
It’s understood that the body was away from any of the clinical areas of the hospital and was located close to the helipad on the grounds.
A large car park and adjoining greenways at the hospital have been sealed off by Gardai, who were alerted to the scene yesterday.
The remaining car parks at the hospital were full, resulting in traffic queues.
Gardai remain at the scene today.
The scene was sealed off for forensic analysis and a post-mortem examination will be conducted.
A spokesperson for University Hospital Limerick said: “There is a Garda investigation ongoing so we won’t be saying anything at this point.”
